Catherine Ashford always picked up her 10-year-old daughter from school. It was their custom. On Friday, May 12, 1995, the daughter waited at Cooper Elementary School, but her mother never came. The school made arrangements for friends to drive the girl to her home at 3209 S. 32nd E. Ave., where she found her mother’s car in the driveway, the apartment door ajar and her mother shot to death in the living room. According to the TPD online cold case listing, Ashford, 35, had not been in a relationship with anyone since her divorce.

Police say they want to question a man about the slaying of his ex-wife who was found shot to death Friday at her eastside residence...

Ashford divorced Larry Alan Wilson, 37, several years ago and had been granted a protective order to keep him away from her, Tulsa Police Cpl. Mike Cook said. "I want to talk to him and question him about this case," Cook said. "I think he might be a violent person."

In the petition for protective order dated Oct. 26, 1994, Ashford wrote that Wilson obtained her unlisted phone number and followed her to "four different job locations."

"I am startled, frightened and concerned for my safety each time he comes around. He carries a gun," Ashford stated in the court document.

I don't know if the ex was ever arrested, but no one has been prosecuted for Catherine's murder. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Tulsa Police Department Cold Case Division.

''It was a time filled with turmoil for Catherine. She was in the midst of a nasty divorce, one that led her to take important steps to protect herself, including obtaining a protective order against her ex-husband. Yet, despite those precautions, police say the unthinkable happened.

"He remains probably the primary suspect in this. She had filed some stalking reports and a lot of concerning behavior around that and unfortunately, he fled the state and he remains the primary person of interest in this,” said Watkins.''

''If you have any information regarding the death of Catherine Ashford, you are asked to reach out to the Tulsa Police Department.''

It sucks when everyone knows who committed a crime but they managed to get lucky and do it without leaving any witnesses or physical evidence.
