<<George Marlin Carpenter was 49 when he was last contacted his family via mail in 1985. No one has heard from since. Unfortunately, the only photo we have of George is when he was a young man. George attended three different Native assimilation “camps”, most notably at Chilocco, here in Oklahoma.
George, of the Chickasaw Nation, was born to Myrtle Gipson and Frank Carpenter on April 12th, 1936. He had six siblings who all passed away without knowing what happened to George and who never stopped searching. While enrolled at Chilocco, George enlisted in the military and fought in Korea. When he returned home after the war he became transient between California, Oklahoma, and Texas. In the 70s he located his father, stepmother, and his sisters in Coalgate, Oklahoma. His oldest sister, Pauline, resided in Fittstown, Oklahoma and he often kept in contact with her over the years. Sometime in 1984/85 George contacted his sister and said he was living with a woman in Midland, Texas. When his niece Gina was graduating from college he sent her a card. Gina sent her uncle a thank you card in May 1985 but it was returned undeliverable. Subsequent letters and attempts to contact him were also returned. George never contacted his family again. His family never gave up searching for him.>>
