''Police said 77-year-old Helen Gordon was at a family's northeast Oklahoma City home on Christmas night of that year. She left late in the evening and never made it home.

"It was about 12 hours later that following day when her body was located at an oil lease in southeast Oklahoma City," said MSgt. Jennifer Wardlow. "She was found face down in a pool of water. She had been beaten, strangled, and raped."

Gordon's car was found a short distance away at that location.''
"What investigators believe happened is that the suspects were trying to take her vehicle but got stuck in the mud, so they abandoned the vehicle and ended up leaving," Wardlow said.

Wardlow said a shoe with blood on it was recovered from the scene.

"We do have DNA in this case and we're hopeful that at some point we get enough information to find someone who is a match," she said.''

To me, that shoe looks like a woman’s shoe?

I thought so too, is it a clog?

Did they confirm it wasn't her shoe?

This is the first I heard about this case - horrific. It takes a special kind of criminal scum to brutalize those in our society who are defenseless, i.e. children & the elderly - as in this case.

Though this is obviously cold comfort, at least these criminals didn't get ahold of the car - which they were obviously trying to steal.

It's good that they have DNA here. So, I do think it's feasible that this can be solved.

I did a quick google, apparently men wore clogs too in 1975.

Yes, a slip on with no back. It’s clog-like.
Clogs were very trendy at the time for both males and females, cannot yet find info. to indicate if the shoe belongs to the victim or not- but they look stylish, young, expensive and unsuitable to wear in the cold and mud, imo, speculation.

There could be a woman among the assailant group, too. Hopefully, DNA could help.

ETA It is a man's shoe!

Aww, Ms Gordon was a retired nurse (brief glimpses in video of the poor woman's body) and it is believed that the perps tried to steal her car but they got stuck in the mud.

Assuming that LE compared DNA..
''A convicted rapist serving six life sentences will stand trial on a murder charge in the strangulation of an Oklahoma City woman in 1975, a judge ruled Wednesday.''
''Levering pleaded guilty in 1979 to sexually assaulting two women in Oklahoma County, records show.''

Post #13 above is interesting - I wonder if it's the same guy?! When I initially read about this HG crime today it sounded like the investigators thought there was more than one person who committed the crime.

However, I wonder if this was committed by a lone assailant?!
