Eleven-year-old Oklahoma girl reported missing; authorities resume search


She was reported missing to authorities after 4 p.m. on Monday, June 1 after she was last seen at Beaver Bend.

Family members say she was either abducted or drowned, according to McCurtain County Sheriff Kevin Clardy.

Authorities were told that at one point Layla was seen talking to three men in a newer pickup truck with a lift kit and a boat trailer. However, information gathered from family is conflicting regarding the truck’s type and even the color.

Search to resume Tuesday for young girl in Broken Bow Lake

According to Sheriff Kevin Clardy, Layla Johnson, 11, was attending a large family gathering when she disappeared in the lake. The group was from California and Dallas.

The search is concentrated in the area of Carson Creek at Firefly Drive. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Water Safety Division will be assisting in the search.

From what I can tell, the circled area is where they are searching the water. There is a boat ramp in that area, and it appears that a good portion of the boat ramp is under water. I read a post from four years ago that indicated there were picnic tables, grills and such that also are underwater in that area. That would add potential hazards for a swimmer. Sadly, I can't see this ending well.

#BREAKING: I just got off the phone with the McCurtain County Sheriff's Office. I'm told the search for Layla Johnson is over. However, I was not given anymore information on her status. Working to learn more now...@KSLA

Poor baby girl. I feel so bad for her and her family.
