Holy crap, talk about dysfunctional and sick people.

“The girl’s mother, whom McClatchy News is not identifying to protect the identity of her child, has been arrested, according to police. She is facing charges of enabling child sex abuse, and child neglect.

The father was already in prison, serving a 12 year sentence for an unrelated rape conviction, police said.”

Grandpa is in prison for WHAT!?!?!?!?!

Get those children away, far away!!!

Scary stuff…

Oklahoma law permits court clerks to issue a marriage license to a 16- or 17-year-old with the consent of one parent and after reviewing proof of the child’s age. The law is more restrictive for children under 16, requiring judicial approval, and only in the circumstance where the child is pregnant or has a child. Oklahoma requires a 72-hour waiting period for minors getting married.

Data on child marriage in Oklahoma is lacking. No analysis of marriage records exists. The Pew Research Center has provided an inkling. Using American Community Survey response data from 2010 to 2014, Pew estimates that 5.8 per 1,000 Oklahoma 15- to 17-year-olds are married. This places Oklahoma above the national average.

I think Grandpa being in prison for rape is not “unrelated,” as the authorities said, but in fact could be very related to this poor girl’s rape! This family may normalize men raping women in a variety of circumstances.
So very sad and I hope the 12-year-old and baby could live with a distant, protective and loving relative and get counseling. JMO

Every time someone uses "well, it's legal" to defend an action that's morally wrong, I point to these laws. Child marriage is sadly legal in a lot of the US. :(

Not only is it legal, but there have been a number of efforts in the past few years to end it - and most efforts FAILED. One such example below.

This baby is fortunate she physically survived birthing another baby.

Cases like this make me sick - not just for the obvious, but because it wasn’t that long ago that it was acceptable for Maxim magazine to have a running countdown until the Olson twins turned 18, and because “barely legal” REMAINS a way to advertise adult entertainment. WTH is wrong with people?!

As an aside, I do want to point out that this issue is not limited to any particular religion, culture, or ethnicity. Fraidy Reiss does incredible work. Fraidy Reiss - Wikipedia
