Silver Alert:
Margie Pickens DOB 6-26-38
5’4/100 pounds
Shows signs of dementia
Unknown clothing or direction of travel.
If you have any information, contact the Duncan Police Department at 580-255-2112

Nearly a week has passed since a silver alert for Margie Pickens, an 84-year-old woman who might be showing signs of dementia, was issued. Authorities now say a tip given on the evening of June 15 has been proven false, according to Duncan Police Department.

Sgt. Layle Baker said a report of a sighting of Pickens at the Lawton-Duncan Y came in but he viewed the video several times and was unable to find Pickens on any video surveillance.

“Right now, I don’t have any tips coming in and I don’t have anywhere to go other than the fact that she is missing and we don’t know where she is at,” Baker said. “There was one lady who called and asked if it was against the law, I said no ma’am if you’ve got a picture and you want to go post it and walk door to door that is fine.”

Police said a family member filed the report and according to information provided to Duncan Police, Pickens hasn’t been seen since on or around June 12.

Pickens is described as a height of 5 foot 4 inches and around 100 pounds, according to information released by the department. No clothing description is available at this time.

Community members began the process of searching for Pickens and agencies from around Oklahoma have been notified via the silver alert circulated by agencies across America.

Sgt. Baker said they are still accepting tips and will investigate any tip as they have been doing. He said he hopes for a good resolution.

“The sad side of it is I feel empathy and remorse for the family but I can’t do anymore than what I am doing because I don’t have anywhere to look,” Baker said. “I have asked if there was anywhere she would go, or any other family or any ex-husband, kids, children, grandchildren. Everywhere I ask or try to go to it is either ‘no’ or ‘I don’t know.’ It is a needle in a haystack and we are just waiting for that needle to pop out.”

If there are any reports of Pickens’ whereabouts, citizens are encouraged to contact Baker at 580-255-2112.

This story is developing. The Banner will update as more information becomes available.

“Saturday I just was driven, after praying about it, was driven to do something, because I noticed really no was doing anything,” said search party organizer Tracy Gann.

Margie Pickens was reported missing on June 15th.

The group is not affiliated with Duncan PD or their investigation, but they are nothing short of dedicated.

“It only takes one person to make a difference. We got lots of- See I’m gonna get teary eyed. We’ve got lots of great people here who just care. That’s all.”

The search party has made their way through several parts of Duncan, including most of the streets and alleyways around Pickens house.

Despite the heat, Tracy and the rest of her search party didn’t want to give up on finding Pickens.

“She has a sister, daughter, brother. She has a family. We need to bring her back home for her family one way or the other.”

Pickens sister was there each day to send off the search party with a prayer.

She didn’t want to appear on camera but said the search party gives her hope and her whole family is grateful for their efforts.

I’m not very far from Duncan and have also been diagnosed with early onset, so this case feels close to me. I’m very worried for Margie and her worried family…

Duncan Police Sgt. Layle Baker said after a request from the family, a state search team will deploy this weekend in the search for Margie Pickens, an 84-year-old woman who has been missing for 20 days.

“I have periodically been calling hospitals and mental facilities to see if she is checked in anywhere and all of those have come up negative,” Baker said. “Right now, I don’t have any leads to go on. There were two sightings that we had, which I verified that those were false.”

Baker stated there was a positive sighting on June 8 when a family member saw Pickens walking down the highway. That is the last physical sighting known, according to Duncan Police.

According to Baker, the family reached out to Oklahoma Search and Rescue, which will come down this weekend to conduct a search to see if they find any leads or the whereabouts of Pickens.

Bless those volunteer searchers! I know there are many/most of us here who have the same feelings of wanting to do anything to help. I love the fact that they are also searching for the other missing person (Randall Ray McFarland) at the same time. Here's prayers to all searchers - It would be wonderful if they are able to get good results for both.

Her daughter and sister have posted a flyer that has another photo of Margie and the info that Margie may go by "Anastassia" - also that she may be wearing winter clothes (which really scares me in the hot OK weather)

Oklahoma City Metro Search and Rescue is in Duncan to help with the search. They have organized a search that includes Ground Zero Emergency K9 Unit and other agencies. It sounds like a good organization. They need to be invited to participate by the family or LE. Their first contact with Margie's family was 6/29, and it is too bad that they weren't able to become involved earlier.

This is a good article about OKCMSAR and the way they plan to conduct this search.

The team, led by Brian Smith, State Search Coordinator for OKCM, said the family had a sighting of Pickens at her house sitting in a lawn chair on June 10 as the last known spotting.

Pickens’ house is located at 606 S. 11th Street and Smith began the process of talking with neighbors when he arrived in town on Friday, July 1.

Smith and his team met in the lobby of the Holiday Inn where they are staying for the weekend while conducting the ground search for Pickens to begin the process on Saturday morning.

During the early morning process, Smith delegated his team members, who included an electrician and a full-time police officer among other trades, to help start the mapping process from leads.

While talking with neighbors, Smith found out that possibly a Stephens County Sheriff’s Office deputy had picked up Pickens, who might have been on her way to a family farm near the Velma area.

Smith called the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office dispatch to collaborate the story and as of press time, it was unclear if they had called back to confirm that story.

Talking with the family members in an attempt to gain leads, after posting on social media about the beginning of the search, a person with a possible lead made contact about a possible sighting in Davis.

After contact with Davis Police Department to see if they could follow up on the lead, Smith then finished the mapping process of the search perimeters and shared it with his team.

OKCM will be retuning July 16 with a larger team to continue the search in Duncan. They will be recruiting volunteers from the community to pair with members of the OKCM team.

Smith spent the Fourth of July weekend with a crew of his own searching for Pickens, who has been the subject of a silver alert since June 15. Despite spending multiple days on the ground, Smith plans to return to Duncan on the weekend of July 16.

“A storm shelter could be a place Margie might try to go down and hide not only from the heat, but also from people and it is possible she could have locked herself inside of one,” Smith said. “So if we could just have everybody that has a storm shelter check their storm shelter and if their neighbor has storm shelter, to have their neighbor check their storm shelter. We want to spread the world so that every shelter in the Duncan area has been looked into.”

The Oklahoma City Metro search and rescue will conduct another search party the weekend of July 16th, and they are asking the community for their help.

That Search and Rescue team said Pickens’ last text message was to her Landlord stating that she’s going to her family’s farm which is 25 miles east of Duncan.

These are two interesting articles about how members of the Duncan, OK community have formed a non-profit search and rescue group, which has its roots in the search for Margie Pickens. What they are doing is very impressive and can serve as a model for other communities.

One of the front-line community searchers who has had boots on the ground since the beginning in the search for a woman missing for two months has created a nonprofit organization called Integrity Search & Rescue and the first goal is to locate Margie Pickens.

Tracy Gann, coordinator for Integrity Search & Rescue, is joined by Krystal Stone as the co-founders of the group. Gann was one of the original community members to take efforts into their own hands weeks ago in the search to find Pickens.

Currently, Gann and the members of the group are working on the certification process of search and rescue. This includes a CPR class taken by members of the group to go with first aid certifications.

“You don’t have to be certified but you will go with a member that has been certified,” Gann said. “In cases like if someone shows up missing and we can find them within the first 24 hours and they are possibly dehydrated and just need first aid administered to them, we can actually help on site.”

The group will also take part in a wilderness class to get certified when the weather gets a little cooler and Gann believes all of these trainings will prove important to the goal at hand.

Gann wants this organization to last and serve the entirety of the Stephens County, Wichita Falls, Mt. Scott, Lawton and Chickasha area.

Moving deliberately and probing thoroughly takes time, but members of the Integrity Search & Rescue crew completed their first targeted area Sunday in the search for an 84-year-old woman who has been missing nearly three months.

A newly formed nonprofit, Integrity Search & Rescue volunteers gathered Sunday morning to look for Margie Pickens, an 84-year-old woman who has been the subject of a silver alert since and missing since June 10.

“We are just not going to stop — I don’t care if it is fall time or winter time, I think the 10 or possibly more eventually (are) so dedicated to find an end of this story for this family so they can begin their next chapter in life,” Gann said. “Above all, I believe that Miss Margie deserves closure. That is why, with this being our first team search, we are going to stay on top of it.”

Interesting details about the search at the link.

On Sunday, Aug. 14, the group with Duncan ties returned to follow routes Pickens may have traveled. [snip] ...along a certain route on old Highway 7 from Duncan to Velma. [snip] “... Our teams took sections from Wright’s Steakhouse to the Velma park right by the church.” [snip] “Our future plan is to try to go ahead and search by foot from the Velma church area and go toward the family farm,” Gann said. “We helped Duncan Police knowing that one stretch of Old Highway 7 has been searched by foot. They can eliminate on the work they are doing and that is a successful search day for us (SIC).”

God bless Tracy and all who are still searching for Ms. Margie. :(

...Integrity Search & Rescue was created by Tracy Gann... [Snip] Her group includes 12 members at this time and they had five people continuing the search around the Velma area on Jan. 8 as they knocked out another area on the grid. “We left off at our last search at the Newman Road and Baseline Road, so we picked up where we had left off because we don’t want to miss any coverage of any ground we could miss,”

Gann said anyone can join the team and has had some interest since the last search when she posted about the search to begin 2023. Anyone wanting to join the team or find out more information about Integrity Search & Rescue should contact her at [email protected] or visit their Facebook page.
