Nathan Scoggins lived in Lexington, but on Feb. 26, 2016 he was visiting his mother in Longtown, Okla. His mother had just returned from taking her grandson, Nathan’s son, to school to find Nathan shot in the head...

“My grandson won’t play in the front yard by himself. I have to go with him. Because whoever did this is still walking around free.”

In the incident reports released by the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office, investigators said it appeared homicide victim Nathan Scoggins was shot twice.

In the incident reports, deputies Daniel McHenry and Jeremy James describe the scene they encountered when they responded to a report of a “possible suicide” at a residence on Last Resort Road. However — after some investigation with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation — the two said they began to suspect foul play...

The deputy said the wound was from a bullet, and a stolen .22-caliber pistol was laying on the counter in the kitchen. However, further investigation resulted in James finding a different type of bullet at the crime scene, according to the documents.
