Officers reported that Locklynn had been locked in a room with the dog that killed her, and her door had a double-sided toddler lock preventing her from escaping.

Court documents reveal that Locklynn was attacked by the same dog earlier this month, on Nov. 6, and was taken to OU Children's Hospital with a partially severed ear, requiring plastic surgery.

What the.....? Who in their right mind would lock a toddler in the room with a pit bull, much less one WHO HAD ALREADY BITTEN HER EAR OFF????

I have no idea what they could have been thinking, makes zero sense and 100% preventable?

When she was attacked the first time, the hospital notified DHS, but not LE or Animal Control. Be interesting to hear what they found, I'm assuming they investigated?

So according to the article above she'd been taken to the hospital earlier in the month after the first attack... by who? By an adult still present in the household, or no longer present? How long was she in the room with this dog to be discovered during a wellfare check? Dogs and tiny humans need food, water, etc. so what exactly did that look like? Or did she die right before the wellness check? Ugh. I'm curious what kind of other dogs were in the house, too. Part of me says removing the attacking dog asap may have saved her, but maybe not. Not if there were other aggressive dogs. Not if she was ever locked in with them too.

This is sickening. I love my dogs, so I train them every day. No e collars or corporal punishment. All positive reinforcement.
Some people aren’t putting in the time needed with their pups, especially with children around.
This should never, never, never have happened!

I wonder if it could have been purposeful, to lock a toddler in a room with a dog who had already attacked her...surely they had to hear her screaming and it growling.

All IMO:
The article says the little girl was literally locked in the room with the dog. My speculation is, they didn't want to have to "deal with" a child's needs nor a dog's needs. So they didn't care about the danger and just locked them up together.

They aren't functioning normally and have now hit rock bottom. I do believe the mom loved her daughter in her own way, but no fit parent would have kept a dog that already harmed their child so badly. But they did, because that's the kind of neglect that happens in certain lifestyles...

Darci's fb. I'm honestly such a mean cow but I saw their picture and shook my head, no surprise, just the "type".

Also this isn't her first baby to die.

I think the male "parent" is possibly actually a step parent/bf.
This baby only survived roughly 3 months in their home. Any idea on cause of death?

Did they just decide having a child was just too much to deal with and intentionally locked the 2nd child in the room with the dog that had already gotten a good start on killing her?

I'm sorry; this just seems akin to intentionally leaving a kid strapped in a hot car with the windows rolled up. It does not feel like an accident at all.

If one scrolls down on Darci's FB linked upthread, about a year and a half ago there is a picture of her with a puppy. Assuming this is the same dog that did the mauling, the dog is pretty young and possibly not so great on the impulse control yet, which she as the owner SHOULD have known and accounted for. Full disclosure, I have pits and would never allow them to be alone with (or around at all, at least until the child is old enough to have impulse control) a child that young. In the case of mine, it's more because they'd knock the toddler down in an effort to give love, but it's just not a risk I care to take. I feel like this may not have been accidental also, MOO.

I feel like they used that dog as a weapon.

Oklahoma City Animal Welfare removed all four dogs from the home and noted that three appeared to be malnourished.

Both parents were taken to the station for interviews, where police said the father stated, "I just have a feeling my gut's telling me I'm going to jail."

During the mother's interview, she told investigators that Locklynn's door had a double-sided toddler lock and that would prevent her from getting out.

Doesn't sound like these two knew how to care for animals or children. I'm heartbroken Locklynn's life ended in such a violent way, there is no rationale for what these parents did.

I'm trying to find the other news link, where Mom said the dog was locked in her room, because "he would kill the cats".

Did it say anything about whether she was in a crib or anything in the room locked in with the dog? How long after the deadly attack did her parents enter the room? Or was she found by someone else? :0

Can't answer that, none of those questions have been answered in MSM. I'll look to see if I can find a court filing -ETA

No information so far, but here's the court record.

I don’t typically post but this preventable tragedy has me infuriated. Who locks any dog in a room with a child, much less one with a bite history (on the same child)? Irresponsible, criminal, and not fit for society.

I have two 80 pound German Shepherds I trained and trust 99.999%. Even though I trust them in almost all situations, I would never allow my dogs to be alone with a small child without supervision. A trainer I worked with years ago said, “it’s not that a dog doesn’t bite, it’s that it hasn’t bitten…yet.” You never know what the tipping point is until it is too late. These people knew the dog was dangerous and failed this beautiful baby girl.

After cruising around looking at " attending factors", I'm guessing the 2 year old was put down for a nap, whether in a crib or regular bed, and she put the dog in too, thinking the dog would nap too and her daughter was safe and yay, bonus points for keeping the cats safe too, yippee. 👀

You and I? Absolutely we would have remembered the mauling attack just 6 months earlier that required surgery.

But each person has a maximum limit as to how many dots they can connect. 🙄

Complex thought processes like "cause and effect" and the very similar "actions generate reactions" and "consequences for stupid decisions" might be not very often exercised by certain ppl at certain cognitive and emotional levels and therefore be extremely stunted or nearly nonexistent. 🙄😭🤮

Has stupidity ever been a successful defense for homicide?

Can you imagine how terrified she must have been even just being in the room with the dog after the first attack? Dog bites physically and emotionally scar people for life most of the time! Looking at the paternal grandmother’s FB tells plenty, too. Ugh. This is sickening!
