If Christine Miller is a match, and my fingers are crossed that she is: This is yet another strong reminder that any single point of comparison, like height or date of last contact/discovery, can really only be used to rule in possible matches, not to rule out.

ETA: Carl, do you know if/when the completion of DNA FRS testing was recorded in Christine Miller's NamUs entry? No Google cache.

No, I don't.

It doesn't even say that she was found. Normally when a MP is found, you get a screen that says:

Permission Error - Case Access Denied

This missing person has been found. Therefore this case is restricted to authorized persons ONLY.
Please log in to view the case

However, in Christine's casefile (UP 7610), the file is just restricted from public view.

You do not have permission to view the selected page.

Please email [email protected] with details of what was done to receive this message, or if you believe you have received it in error.

Thank you,

Wow. Five inch height differential if this is in fact Christine.

But this was 1989. Officers probably took notes by hand and then they were typed up on a typewriter into official reports. I can see how fast or messy handwriting could make a 5'3 look like a 5'8....Not saying that's what happened but it's possible.

can someone access the Spanish portion of the site? (you know our little 'secret'. LOL)

oh darn!

it seems coincidental that both vanished so that is a pretty good indication that they matched. I did check the SSDI and there was no Christine Miller, born c. 1970 listed there so if this is her, the family may not have contacted the SS Administration.

Carl,

What about your friend at NamUs? Maybe they can tell you if this UID is Christine.. Sorry, inquiring minds want to know!

I left a voicemail message yesterday with Margaret Loveall. I haven't heard back from her yet.

So are we just waiting for additional confirmation to turn the match light on?

This doesn't look like a WS Match!.

According to the Charley Blog post, Ell from Porchlight suggested the match back in 2008. I called it in in November 2010.

So Ell gets the credit for this one, and I'll set the flag as "Identified".

Love to see the "old" ones put to rest.

RIP Christine.

I got a call-back from Margaret Loveall. She says that she remembers my phone call, and says that she had been on their radar for quite awhile. They haven't been able to resolve it until now because until recently, they only had dentals on the UID (and Christine had never been to a dentist), and they had fingerprints and DNA on Christine, but none of either on the UID.

They finally got a good DNA sample from the bones, and immediately got the match. Interestingly, the match came in on Christine's birthday.

When I clicked the link to the Charley blog I didn't see anything on this - will have to check again. Good on Ell from Porchlight for spotting this though. I'm glad that Christine has been identified.

The Charleyblog link...
The main portion doesn't mention Miller, but this is one of the comments listed under the entry.

From Meaghan’s June 2011 blog post about missing teens with little or no information.

“Christine Miller, 19, missing from Oklahoma since 1989. Because she had a habit of dropping out of sight, the date of her disappearance isn’t known and she wasn’t reported missing until several months had passed.”

Christine has been identified as the Doe Network Case File 238UFOK. Her remains were found on January 2, 1989 on the Arkansas River bank in Tulsa County, Oklahoma. Her cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. It is estimated that she was murdered 3 to 4 months before recovery.

Surprisingly way back in 2008 a volunteer, Ell, at Porch-light International suggested this match to Tulsa investigators. Ell kept repeating her suggestion for several years with no response. Finally in January 2011 Ell contacted the NamUs case manager for this Jane Doe and working with that person got a response.

“Thank you for noticing this possible match. Det Loveall is on vacation and will be back soon. I will also send an email to her. Miss Miller has not been ruled out at this time.

We are currently reevaluating the remains of 8908008 and will submit DNA soon. It appears that will be the only method of comparison. However, the height is quite different. I will keep you posted.

Again, that you for your hard work at looking at comparisons. Have a wonderful New Year!”

Angela Berg-Collins, M.A.
Anthropologist OCME-Oklahoma

On March 1, 2013 she got the following message

“Hi Ellen-

We received verification in December 2012 that the DNA for UP 8908008 matched the familial DNA of MP Christine Miller.

Thanks for your help and let me know if you see any other potential matches-

Angela"
