I'm assuming because if she does have a drug problem she likely goes on benders/binges. I know my ex would disappear for a while when he went on a meth run. I've also had to hunt down a friend or two in the homeless area (Golden Triangle) in Denver when they went missing(heroin). I feel kind of bad for him if that is the case, because it is very stressful, I volunteer with the police as a peer in recovery to help addicts, it's not easy. MOO
