Although technically NOT a "cold case" since Timothy McVeigh was tried, convicted and executed for the murders of so many people in the Bombing of the Mura Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995, there are lingering questions which surround that crime.

Well this is an interesting rabbit hole, thank you for posting.

I always thought there were 2 Nichols brothers. Haven't read the links yet though.

Truly disturbing.
 
There was some speculation that Jose Padilla, who was arrested, tried, and convicted in the "Dirty Bomb" case a number of years ago, and who was considered an "Enemy Combatant" - might have been John Doe Number 2.

Padilla's mugshot and the sketch of John Doe Number 2 were strikingly similar. Other researchers found more similarities.

I was always curious, going all the way back to 1995, why the government gave up pursuing John Doe #2. It never made sense to me. Mcveigh had help from several people and while I do not believe in conspiracy theories, I believe there is a reason this person was not pursued further. Perhaps trying to avoid a conflict?
