Have you seen Chase Robertson since April 29? Lane County man missing

His car was found May 4 near Quartz Creek Road in eastern Lane County.

LE searched the areas Chase was known to frequent with no success.
Search and Rescue K9 and ground teams have been searching the area where his vehicle was found.
Oregon Army National Guard assisted in the search with air support but found no indication of the direction Chase went.
Trained searchers are continuing to look for Chase in the heavily wooded area south of Cougar Reservoir but have exhausted all initial leads as to where he could have gone.

MSM has corrected his last name. It is Roberson, not Robertson as previously reported. I’ve alerted mods to please edit title.

From his FB, he has had quite a bit of stress recently, both emotional and financial. The PNW is very unforgiving in terms of terrain. It's beautiful but dangerous, even for experienced persons like himself, who fight wildfires. And it's very chilly there now. So sad. I hope he is found safe.

as for the spelling of his last name, I think he goes by both. Mother's last name was Robertson, an old FB Chayston Roberston spells it differently as well. Not sure if it matters.

The k9s weren't able to track his scent outside of the car? that kind of baffles me as it hadnt been very long since he had last been seen.
I guess according to his sister the car was "snowed in" which would likely make a difference. very worried for this family!

He wasn't reported missing until several days after he was last seen. The car was snowed in. Snow can make a scent trail either difficult or impossible even within a couple days of the person being there.

I didn't know that about snow. That is helpful to know for future cases.

Colder environments have fewer smells than warmer ones, making them olfactorily less “noisy” for a dog’s sensitive nose to pick out the right scent. If the scent is laid AFTER a snow the dog has a better chance of picking something up, as there are likely less other odors interfering with it. But if it snows AFTER the scent is laid it can be extremely difficult for the dog to pick up on it.

@GraceG
And today’s lesson....Cold Environment & its Affects on Scents.
I love it (Learning random bits of facts like this; I mean the circumstances around them aren’t ideal).
But in all seriousness, thanks for sharing. I didn’t know about how snow affects scents like that.
