'He was obsessed - and got to a paranoid state': Springfield man remains missing

We met with the girlfriend and a close friend of Brazil's and it's a very difficult time for them; on top of Eric's disappearance, they're having to deal with packing up all his belongings.

Brazil’s girlfriend was told she had two weeks to vacate the apartment she shares with him because it's conditional on his work as assistant apartment manager.

Chaos overseas has led to tragedy locally.

“It was almost as if the war....he was obsessed - and got to a paranoid state,” says Jennifer Rover, a close friend and neighbor of Brazil’s.

The 34-year-old became increasingly fixated on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, fearing for his safety, Rover says.

“He said we just need to go; we're not safe,” she recalls.

Despite attempts by Rover and Brazil's girlfriend, Ashley, to calm him down, he left home in an agitated state on March 14.

“So he took the keys and he took his phone and he kissed Ashley goodbye, and he got in the car and he drove off.”

Brazil said he would reach out that evening, but he never did. And cards he had with him were never used.

Brazil was last seen in Springfield, Oregon on March 14, 2022. He had become paranoid and fixated on Russia's recent invasion of Ukraine and apparently believed he had to flea the area for his safety. His live-in girlfriend and a friend tried to calm him down and get him to stay, but he drove away and has never been heard from again.

On March 27, Brazil's white 2000 Honda CR-V with the license plate number 828KQQ was found in a remote wooded area near the end of Goodpasture Road in Vida, Oregon, with his cellular phone nearby. A photo of the car is posted with this case summary. There was no sign of Brazil himself at the scene. He never called his loved ones or used his credit cards after his disappearance. His case remains unsolved.

This lengthy article is about 5 people who are still missing, or who have been found deceased, within an 85-mile radius in Lane County, Oregon. "Within an 85-mile radius, there are at least five open investigations, with shattered families still searching for the answers. At the most recent count, 35 people are missing — one of the largest numbers in the state."

Their families raised $3,000 to expedite DNA testing of a skull that was found in the area 18-months ago. They were inspired by Candice Cooley, mother of Dylan Rounds, and "Dylan's Legacy Project." There is a potentially 12-week wait for the results of the DNA testing.

The article includes an interview with a sergeant in the Lane County Sheriff's Office, who discusses the chronically underfunded and undermanned department, and the difficulties of searching in the treacherous geography of the area.
