"Westfall, 50, was doing off-grid camping while en route from Washington to Arizona. That’s where he met Shaun Salsman, 41, of Colorado.
What may have transpired between Westfall and Salsman is a mystery that authorities are trying to unwind, especially after Salsman was found dead in a remote area of Archuleta County, Colorado on May 28 in Westfall’s vehicle. Days later, local authorities recovered Salsman’s black Dodge pickup with a burgundy tailgate about three-quarters of a mile past where the men had been camping in eastern Oregon."

Sheriff: 'It's a shot in the dark' where to look for missing man Eric Westfall

The items found are said to be some of Westfall’s personal belongings. Johnson said they were “in random areas out there, which was odd.” He said some of the items were in the immediate area, but “most of it was along the roadside and up and down the road for, I don’t know, maybe a mile. Over a pretty significant span of that road.” The sheriff said it appeared the items were thrown off the side of the road going north from where the men been camping and looked like the items that had were outside Westfall’s vehicle in a photo he had sent to his mom.

Third search finds no clues to fate of missing Washington state man - Malheur Enterprise

A third search near Juntura for a missing Washington state man did not turn up any new clues.

Also, last month, a local rancher discovered an abandoned Dodge pickup in the Juntura area near where Westfall was last believed to have been but whether it is connected to Westfall’s disappearance is not known.

Hopefully, Eric Westfall’s mother gets closure on her son.
Have a feeling because of the remote areas and Salsman seems to travel a lot and far from his home.

Found some information on FB about Shaun Salsman, 41, of Colorado, before he met Westfall at Juntura Hot Springs. He was reported missing the month before.

Short timeline ( I'll double-check it later.)
March 2024: Shaun Salsman went missing in March 2024 and was last seen westbound on Highway 34 and Hahns Peak Drive in Loveland, Colorado.
(With a little sleuthing, it turns out Salsman has warrants for his arrest and is a known illegal drug user.)

April 17, 2024: Westfall calls his mom and tells him he met a guy and called him a friend, who turns out to be Shaun Salsman

April 24, 2024: Westfall was last seen near his camp at Juntura Hot Springs

May 6, 2024: search starts for Westfall on 1000+ back roads from Juntura to surrounding areas.

May 28 : Westfall’s Nissan Xterra had been found in Colorado. Shaun Salsman, from Colorado, was found dead inside from natural causes(yeah right). He allegedly was having a medical emergency, and had called 911 requesting medical help

May 31 2024: A local rancher discovered an abandoned Dodge pickup totally cleaned out in the Juntura area near where Westfall was last believed to have been. However, it is not known whether the pickup is connected to Westfall’s disappearance.:
