Hillsboro police found a human skull and a shallow grave containing more bones and identification for Jose Socorro Chavez, 48. Investigators think the remains are those of Socorro. Reports indicate that Socorro died between March 25, 2000, and June 21, 2003, from a crushing blow to the head, likely caused by a right-handed person. Detective Michelle Hahn said Socorro's injuries appeared more severe than if he'd fallen and hit his head. Socorro was homeless and had spent time at the Portland Rescue Mission. Hahn said investigators have had trouble tracking down friends and family for Socorro, who used several aliases and dates of birth.
