Search for missing man continues

A 40-year-old man from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, who rode by motorcycle to Wallowa County for the Chief Joseph Days weekend, has not been seen since Saturday, July 28.

The last two confirmed sightings of Isaac Roberts, according to Wallowa County Undersheriff Steve Rogers, were of Roberts walking along Highway 3 between mile-posts 22 and 20, and about five miles north of Snow Hollow Hill. Those sightings were at noon and 4:30 p.m., July 28.

The man Undersheriff Rogers wished not to name told the county sheriff Roberts refused to accompany him back to Enterprise. Rogers said Isaac Roberts asked the man to take care of his motorcycle and belongings, and he was going to continue on to Coeur d’Alene.

2013 article:

Oregon State Police are treating the case of Isaac Lee Roberts , 41, as a homicide, although his body has not been found and no one has been arrested since Roberts went missing during last year's blowout.

State police Detective Greg Retherford of La Grande, citing a timeline compiled from interviews, said investigators believe Roberts died within 24 hours of his arrival at the festivities July 27, 2012.

Retherford said the odds are good Roberts' body is somewhere in the vast and rugged backcountry where Oregon, Idaho and Washington come together. "It's a massive area out there, and it's rough country," Retherford said...

Roberts was last seen around 1:45 a.m. July 28 leaving the Joseph tavern with two men and two women, the Wallowa County Sheriff's Office reported.

According to Retherford, Roberts and another man later drove to Lewiston, Idaho, to buy methamphetamine.

Shiloh Roberts said his brother had intermittent difficulties with drugs for much of his life.

2015:

As many of you are aware, a man by the name of Isaac Roberts went missing from Wallowa County three years ago during Chief Joseph Days, somewhere along Highway 3 between Enterprise and Asotin, Washington. The only physical evidence recovered was a handkerchief or ‘do rag’ from his head. This case has been under investigation as a criminal case and follow-up leads continue to come in. It has become an interesting cold case that Sheriff Rogers strives to solve so that he may give some sort of closure to the family. The search has never stopped.

<<Investigators found a witness who saw Roberts and his traveling companion in Lewiston, the last known sighting of the missing man.

"They appeared to be in good spirits and getting along," said Retherford.

Police are weighing the possibility that Roberts didn't leave Lewiston alive. Or he may have been killed en route back to Enterprise and his body disposed of along the way, said Retherford.

"Money could possibly be a motive" in the disappearance, said Retherford. "Drugs are involved for sure. That's a probable motive... I don't think it was a personal beef.">>

Circumstances of Disappearance

Isaac Lee Roberts rode his motorcycle from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where he resided, to Wallowa County, Oregon for Chief Joseph Days weekend in Joseph, Oregon, his hometown.

Isaac was last seen at about 1:45 a.m. on July 28, 2012, leaving a tavern in Joseph with two men and two women.

According to law enforcement, an unnamed man says he and Isaac decided to drive to Lewiston, Idaho, on July 28. On the way back to Joseph, the man's vehicle ran out of gas. The man hitchhiked 19 miles to Enterprise to get gasoline while Isaac decided to wait with the car. According to the man, when he returned to the vehicle with the gas, Isaac told him he was going to hitchhike to Coeur d' Alene, asked the man to take care of his motorcycle and belongings, and was last seen walking along Highway 3 between mileposts 22 and 20, about 5 miles north of Snow Hollow Hill.

However, according to Isaac's family, Isaac called his wife the evening of July 27, and told her he would be back in Coeur d'Alene in time to drive one of his sisters to the airport the following day. Isaac's phone has remained silent since that phone call. Isaac's family has further said that because he suffers from lung problems and can't walk more than a mile without sitting down, he would not have refused a ride back to Enterprise and would not have decided to abandon his $25,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and walk off.

Isaac, a construction worker who was between jobs at the time of his disappearance, was carrying several thousand dollars from the sale of a pickup with him at the time.

Foul play is suspected.
