<<In the early afternoon of November 22, 1989, Jim Dimick left his Northeast Portland residence on his way to work as a swing shift security guard at Omark Industries in Milwaukie. A roommate was the last person who saw him that day, but he never came home from work later that evening. Family members soon filed a missing persons report with the Portland Police Bureau. On December 3, 1989 - eleven days after his disappearance - Dimick's bronze Chevrolet Camaro was found in snow-covered forested terrain at the end of U.S. Forest Service Road 3621 in the Mount Hood National Forest. Some of the car's windows had been broken, but the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office did not find direct evidence from the scene that Dimick had met with foul play.

An eight-day search over a 20-25 mile radius of the area in which the car was found turned up no trace of Dimick more than a few yards from the car. Deputies deduced from the depth of the snow in the area immediately around the car that it had been driven there no later than Nov. 24, 1989.

A spokesperson for the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said that one of the puzzling aspects of the case was that Dimick paid his debts within two weeks before his disappearance -- ``not just his monthly bills, but all of them.'' Family members told police that Dimick apparently was not suicidal or despondent, although he may have been "a little depressed'' about not having a better job. His body was never found or recovered.>>
