TOKETEE FALLS, Ore. - Search crews are looking for a missing Mt. Angel man near Toketee in eastern Douglas County after a man told deputies that he and his friend had been lost in the woods for two days.

Deputies responded to the Glide Store at 6 p.m. Monday after Anthony Fennimore, 29, of Silverton called dispatchers, the sheriff's office said.

Fennimore said he and his friend - Jeffery A. Vance, 30, of Mt. Angel - "experienced vehicle problems after becoming lost and eventually walked away from the vehicle together on Friday," the sheriff's office said. "The two became separated either Saturday night or Sunday morning."

Fennimore got a ride to Glide on Monday and called dispatch, the sheriff's office said.

Search crews are no working to located Vance and the vehicle, a maroon 2008 Chevy Colorado pickup with Oregon license plate 436KSW.

Vance is 6-feet tall, 300 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last known to be wearing dark blue or black Helli Hansen rain gear, a brown or gray stocking cap, a camouflage framed backpack and Georgia boots, the sheriff's office said.

The Sheriff's Office is being assisted in the search by Pacific Power, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Forest Service and Oregon State Police.

Sheriff: Man missing in Douglas County woods since Friday

Maybe I am too cynical, but separated in the woods from your friend without a formal agreement to split up? Hmmm. Also, suppose, perhaps if he had rolled down a hill and broken a leg, wouldn't you have set up a system on how to return with help to the spot where you'd left him? Left strips of cloth tied to branches etc...

Hinky meter here for me, personally.

Not sure of the physical condition of the friend but I’m wagering at that height and weight he may have had a hard time keeping up and that’s how they got separated. Not fat shaming, he may have been lineman athletic but I could see how they could get separated or if he got injured or had a medical issue.

Not clear if they left the road, walking on deer trails it can become disorienting if the sun isn’t shining. Friend walked off ahead and couldn’t find his way back to where he left him.

If they were in a street vehicle, why didn't they backtrack from the vehicle? A Chevy Colorado is a mid-sized truck, not a small ATV.

The article implies the friend said they went overland, which would be a not smart idea in February.

Drugs or alcohol involved? The friend clearly got a ride off of a road. Something isnt adding up

They supposedly started walking due to vehicle trouble but it sounds like dude was fully outfitted for a hike in the woods.

Jeffery Vance, 30, became separated from his friend after the pair experienced vehicle problems, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's office.

Anthony Fennimore, 29, of Silverton, told deputies he and Vance walked away from their pickup Friday and separated Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Fennimore found his way to a store in Glide on Highway 138 (North Umpqua Highway) and alerted authorities Monday evening.

He was last known to be wearing dark blue or black Helli Hansen rain gear, a brown or gray stocking cap, a camouflage framed backpack and Georgia boots.

We had a situation in Toronto just before Christmas that was eerily suspicious. A woman and a male friend were hiking a trail when they became separated. My hinky meter was screaming. How could they have become separated?

Well it turns out, the woman must have slipped and fell down a slope right into the Don River. Her body was found half in/half out of the river.

It was all on the up and up. Just an accident. So it does happen but I was convinced she had met with foul play. I was wrong.

The owner of the vehicle has multiple (and I mean MULTIPLE) DUI's in the state of Oregon (www.searchquarry.com) so it's plausible the decision to go off road in the heart of winter might have been due to impaired judgment.

My husband and I do a lot of hunting/hiking in the woods. We don't walk side by side that much and it's not too uncommon for him to get ahead and not realize, especially if the ground isn't crunchy. The difference though is that we usually either know our way around where we're hiking or if it's unfamiliar territory, we are likely to have a pretty good plan in place plus GPS so getting separated isn't an issue.

That being said, I find it odd that two grown men didn't have at least one cell phone between them to call for help and I don't typically take a frame pack unless I'm doing a multi-day hiking trip or packing in a lot of supplies to a campsite where I will be staying for several days.

Agreed - I used to whitetail hunt 1000 acres up near Wolcott IN that a farmer friend owned with 3 male friends every other year (when it was in corn and not soybeans). We always carried a phone and a GPS in case we got separated to the point of being lost. But I'm old and jaded, these young men probably thought they were fine for a day drive out in the woods somewhere.

Heavy snow suspends search for father of 3 missing in eastern Douglas County
"Heavy snowfall in the area has hindered search efforts in the area, ultimately leading to the suspension of efforts on Saturday February 9th, until conditions improve," the sheriff's office said.

Vance's father called his son "a good hiker" who carries survival gear in his backpack. The father said Vance has a wife and 3 kids and works as a plumber.

Kansas native disappears in Oregon wilderness
Angela Carroll, Jeff's mom, says he moved from Salina to Oregon a few months back to be with his wife.

"He left and went back out there for a higher paying job. he has three beautiful children," said Carroll.

Rescuers in Oregon say winter weather has stopped their search several times. Now, Jeff's family says they're preparing to drive to Oregon to help in any way they can.

"Even though we can't get on the mountains, we can go look down logging roads, we can walk...you know. We can go on the outskirts where it's safe enough for us and assist the volunteers," said Jeff's sister, Jennifer Vance.
