Circumstances of DisappearanceKevin Hill was last seen in the Oregon Caves near Cave Junction, Oregon on February 28, 1987. He was described by witnesses as being inside the caves, and his motorcycle was found abandoned near this location, in addition to a campsite with some of his personal items/identification. His vehicle was subsequently found abandoned in Yakima, Washington. It is believed that Mr. Hill most probably abandoned the car in Yakima (where he last lived) and drove the motorcycle into Oregon state. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Kevin Gordon Hill was charged on 2/24/1987 (four days before his disappearance) with reckless driving in Jackson County, Oregon. He, not surprisingly, failed to appear for these charges in June of that year. I can't find exactly where this took place in Jackson County, but he was last seen in Josephine County, which adjoins Jackson. That said, one would not really have to go through Jackson County to get to Cave Junction from Yakima, so he seems to have been getting around in the area for at least a few days prior to his disappearance.

Tried to find some specifics about Oregon Caves, and got mostly tourist info from various websites. One, linked below, mentions a 90 minute guided tour, which is likely well traveled and watched over. But it also mentions another "off trail" tour which is over some rugged terrain and might allow for a person to get separated or lost on their own. It seems likely that Kevin may have gotten off on his own and may have fallen into a crevice or remote location and died somewhere in that National Park area.

Honestly, I'd like to see what I can do to find out about what their tours would have been like around this time. On a Facebook post about Kevin, somebody brought up a good point- namely that in February, tours of the caves aren't generally being given. I wonder if this was different in 1987, or if they did tours year round through certain areas. There's also the possibility that he could have snuck in, but if so how would others have seen him?

On June 9th, 2023, Kevin Hill's sister April joined us at the first Josephine County Missing Person Rally in Grants Pass, Oregon. It was an honor speaking with her and getting some more insight on Kevin and what was going on in his life around the time that he disappeared.
Attached is a link to a PBS segment that was done about the rally, there are two other things covered in the segment but the rally is at approximately the nine minute mark. There are more details about Kevin. His family misses him so much.
