Melzer was last seen on Thursday, September 22, 2005, at his home, located in the 1000 block of Southeast 33rd Avenue. According to family, Melzer was depressed... In addition, Melzer was the recent victim of a burglary at his home, where guns were taken.

Police in Southwest Portland recently located Melzer’s vehicle, a 1993 Silver Dodge Caravan with red pinstripes, which had been missing since his disappearance...

Melzer is described as a 56-year-old white male, 6’0 feet tall and 160 pounds. Melzer is balding with salt-pepper hair that is often worn in a ponytail. He usually wears an English tweed driver’s cap and wears wire-rimmed glasses.
