Found Deceased OR - Matthew Lang, 33, Bend, 27 Oct 2020 *car found badly crashed*

Search underway for Bend man missing since crash on Hwy. 62 in Southern Oregon - KTVZ

Troopers and emergency personnel responded around 5:30 p.m. to the single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 62 near milepost 37, between Shady Cove and Prospect.

OSP said Matthew Lang of Bend is believed to be the operator, but has not contacted friends or family since the crash.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue members were searching the area Wednesday for Lang, who was described as 6 feet tall and 185 pounds, with brown hair.

I just now heard about this and it is strange. I have driven this Highway numerous times and the stretch between Shady Cove and Prospect is so well traveled. His car was found but no sign of him. This is truly a mystery. If he were injured or deceased, they would have found him by now. It looks like he was on his way home to Bend from the Rogue Valley. What happened to Matthew? Hoping his family and friends get some answers - prayers to them.

It is quite possible he was ejected and they just haven’t found him yet. Seems impossible but it’s not! Hopefully he was worried about getting in trouble or something (I have no idea but if he was thinking he would be in trouble for the accident because it was a one car only crash) and he’s taking some time away?? I don’t know though, that seems unlikely. Wonder what causes the accident?

My aunt was thrown from a vehicle accident where other family members were also in the car. It was in a fairly metropolitan area and even so it took them a (thankfully fairly short) while to find her and they knew she was there somewhere.

My heart breaks for this young man’s family. Praying he’s only injured/incapacitated/wandered off and not something nefarious or more tragic.

Matthews phone found inside the car, wallet found nearby with no cash or ID.

That’s interesting that cash and ID were not in wallet.

Two fairly new posts on the FB page.

1) From his desperate Mom upset that LE is doing nothing in her opinion. She says they won’t run his DNA or the blood DNA in the truck.

2) From one of the searchers describing their very thorough search, including culverts and trees and a steep slope across the road (I think) down to a lake. He has a theory that Matt, or it may not have been Matt in the truck, was thrown out or managed to climb out and either take shelter in the woods or thumb a ride.

Regarding DNA, I know from a previous case that LE is not normally going to go to the expense of running DNA without cause. In the previous case, members of the community raised a ruckus and LE did run the DNA on the tiny amount of blood in the abandoned car of the missing 17 year old girl. When found, she explained how it happened...nothing nefarious. I’m sure Matt’s Mom wants to know if the blood belongs to her son or someone else, understandably.

Personally, that crash looks horrific and I don’t see how anyone could survive, let alone hide or hitchhike. The vehicle looks somewhat hidden behind brush and I still wonder how long it was there.

I don’t know what to make of the “missing” ID and no money in the wallet, except that both items might have been in Matt’s pocket for some reason. I’m not really seeing red flags there.

Those crash photos are brutal. It is strange his wallet was found outside the car with no money or ID. I wonder if he usually kept his wallet on him or maybe in the console of the car? It's entirely possible he was injured and wandered off. I hope they are searching a very wide area just in case he did wander off into the woods or something.

I was looking over the area he went missing from which is described as Highway 62 near milepost 37, between Shady Cove and Prospect.

I found the news link from early this year about rock slides and it has some great photos that puts perspective on how difficult the area would be to clear.

.One lane of Highway 62 open near Prospect after boulders fall onto roadway

I think an accident reconstruction would give a good mathematical calculations on possible locations he would have landed if tossed out. I saw some of his truck photos but I can not tell is the drives airbag deployed..It looks like the passenger one may have which makes me wonder if the would deploy in no one was sitting in that seat and they should be able to tell if he was wearing a seat belt.

Thanks so much. I overlooked that. I wonder where he was headed...Medford or beyond?
