In May 1996 a man was strolling through a field on the western edge of the Troutdale Airport when his dog darted off and started scratching the ground. The owner went to look and there, on the grass, was a large bone. A human bone.

Multnomah County Sheriff's Office detectives were called to the scene. They found a few more bones, so a search and rescue team scoured the area.

In the end, detectives were able to piece together a skeleton that had weathered at least a year in the elements.
