Wonder if this could be Daniel Berry Neasbitt (MP134361), last seen October 3, 2024

Car found in Rockaway Beach on Highway 101 (about 30 mins from Netarts), no description of his clothing unfortunately.
Boots on the UID were small for an adult man size 8.

Sounds like Daniel needed roadside assistance and couldn't get service? Here is an article - his wife went and personally searched the coast after he did not turn up. He is around 5'6'' and 155lbs.

Websleuths thread for Daniel.

Those Sorel boots were launched in the Fall of 2022. Not sure if they are still being sold. Columbia Sportswear has an employee store in Beaverton, Oregon where I suspect the shoes and pants were purchased. You typically need a "pass" to get into the employee stores. So he either worked at Columbia or knew someone who did. I believe they also do events where first responders and people with fishing licenses can shop at the employee store. Sorel and Mountain Hardwear are both sold in store there and are hard to find elsewhere unless you buy online.

ETA: Sorel and Mountain Hardwear are owned by Columbia Sportswear and that is why they are sold at the employee store

Very interesting about the Columbia store. We get the occasional invite to the Nike store from the local health club and from my husband's work company and they are very rigid about who gets inside and what they buy. So they probably keep really good records - I think you even have to show ID?

As far as the shoe size, I have a 20 year old who wears size 8 and a 15 year old who wears a size...much bigger (I don't even know but they look huge). They are about the same height/build.

Bummer they didn't get even a height on this guy - his pants and shoes are still on!

At the Nike store they check ID but not at the Columbia one. The Columbia store passes are a lot easier to come by and they aren't quite as strict, but I still believe he knew someone who work(s)(ed) there around Fall 2022 or like you mentioned he may have procured passes through work or another membership. I would assume he is from the Portland area or has friends and family in the area.

Hello. My gym in Beaverton has passes to the Columbia store at the front desk, so they are readily available. Perhaps other gyms do the same thing.

I found this article about a clammer from New Mexico who drowned in Netarts Bay. I'm wondering how likely it was that the UID entered the water in Netarts Bay?

Here is the article about the person who drowned (and was recovered) earlier this year:

And surely they checked the UID against this missing (Jan 2023) kayaker?

And here is an interesting case study about Netarts Bay with helpful photos. It seems to be an area that looks innocuous but can be quite dangerous (as many water areas are)

Very strange they did not release the name...I'm assuming out of respect for the family but still feels counterproductive MOO

Are you planning on giving them a call? I think it's a good lead. I'm not sure how decomposed they were, but the water on the Oregon coast is very cold so I could see it!

ETA: AnneMC did you have the link to the other article? I believe the links in your previous comment are the same

Wooowwww, the two brain cells that I have are not connecting today! Thank you @TheHighestPriestess for pointing that out. I ended up spending a lot of time on this site and learned a ton. I have friends that kayak and now I'm all worried about them!

edit - shoot I just cleared the tabs before I got on here. I'm pretty sure I meant to link this particular one: Rule 1 / Case 8
