I got a call-back from Vancouver PD. When she determined that I was not affiliated with LE, she became very circumspect.

But she did say that they have David Harrington's name in their computer as the result of being contacted by LE in the U.S. after a computer-generated potential match. But she would not disclose what they know about this possible match. I asked if she was saying that the LE contact was the result of a computer generated connection and not the result of a citizen tip, and she said yes.

This is interesting because the computer would be able to spot similarities in vital stats and biometric similarities, but the similarities in height, age, and hair color alone would not sufficiently set him apart from the many other male MP's in Western Canada to put him on their front-burner. And the computer would not be able to recognize that he is wearing a similar hat in his photo.

Secondly, when someone tells you that they cannot disclose details, it's not usually because there are no details to disclose. It's kind of like if you ask your kid if he stole the cookies out of the cookie jar, and he responds "I won't say", you can conclude that he probably did.

I'd say better than 50-50. Just based on the way she minced her words, I suspect that they already have a tentative match on the dental chart and are just waiting for DNA. The fact that it was a computer-generated hit suggests to me that they either got a mtDNA hit or a dental chart hit because if it was just a computerized match on age, height and timeframe, that wouldn't be enough to raise flags.

While i was talking to Janet Franson today on a separate issue, I remembered about this case, and realized that it was still open, and nothing has apparently been done to resolve whether David Harrington is a match.

I had called Canadian authorities over a year ago, and got the runaround. They said something about being aware of this possible match, but they wouldn't elaborate.

Well, this UID case is still open, so I brought it to Janet's attention. She had not heard of David Harrington. So she says that she will make a few calls to see if she can get this resolved.

David Harrington is still an open case on the VPD website, so worth following up on I believe. Possible match.
