I've followed this case for a while as it involves Oregon. I didn't realize that we didn't have a thread for it. My hope is that this young girl's competitive spirit will aid her in the healing process.

Newberg [OR] golf instructor sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for making child


"A Newberg golf instructor who used a 12-year-old girl to produce child as they traveled across Oregon was sentenced today to 25 years in federal prison.

Chief U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken ordered Rodney Mead Pelling, 68, to register as a sex offender after his release from prison and undergo government supervision for the rest of his life...."

"...Pelling first came to the attention of police in July 2008, when he was observed behaving inappropriately with his victim at a motel in Sisters [OR].

The girl competed in golf and gymnastics, and Pelling accompanied her during competitions across the state and sometimes entertained her at his home..."

I'm not sure about the victim's mother. But we don't need to worry about her father for a couple of decades.

FWIW, a married couple sued Pelling this spring. Looks like his homeowner's insurance. That's a common tactic for victims to gain compensation for their abuse and funding for therapy.

It seems that Pelling had some sort of connection with Parrett Mountain Vineyards in Newberg, OR in 2007. The articles state that he's a businessman. Can anyone find out what Mr. Pelling did for employment.

So there Pelling is in court, apologizing to his victim and what does he say? (FWIW, I rarely feel like ranting....I feel like ranting):

"...Pelling asked his victim for forgiveness, claiming that “a perfect storm of factors,” including medication he was taking, led to behavior that he claimed was beyond his control..."

Mr. Pelling, NO medication renders a person incapable of controlling sexual urges. The only drug which might come close would be meth, and I hardly call that a medication. If you were whacked out on meth, I seriously doubt if you could have kept up appearances and coached or instructed at sporting events. And if your doctor truly prescribed some sort of medication which turned you into a sex fiend and removed your moral compass, I'd really like to learn more about this. As a society, we need to know about these "medications".

after he was seen engaging in inappropriate behavior with a 12-year-old relative at a motel in Sisters.

The ensuing investigation revealed that Pelling traveled throughout Oregon with the girl, creating numerous sexually explicit images of the minor both at his Newberg home and at hotels in various counties throughout Oregon between April 2007 and May 2008.
