2 Pennsylvania state troopers have been shot, governor says

Gov. Josh Shapiro says two Pennsylvania State Police troopers have been shot in Susquehanna County. The incident occurred Thursday along Route 171 near the village of Thomson, about 40 miles north of Scranton.

“About an hour ago in Susquehanna County, two state troopers were shot. Lori and I are praying for those troopers,” Shapiro said. “I want you to know I’ve communicated with Col. Paris. He is on the scene. It is an active situation and at the conclusion of this event I plan to head there myself.”

A state police spokesperson, Trooper Logan T. Brouse, said the location was along Route 171 near the village of Thomson. That’s about 40 miles (63 kilometers) north of Scranton.

2 Troopers shot in Susquehanna County

The shooting happened while the troopers were responding to a call along Route 171 in Thompson Township around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The troopers were taken to a hospital; there is no word yet on their condition.

A roadblock has been set up at Route 171 and Bethel Hill Road.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area until further notice.

A Susquehanna County man killed a neighbor and ambushed two responding Pa. state troopers, seriously injuring both, before other officers shot him dead on Thursday, authorities say.

• Victim is Lori Wasko, 57, who was shot and killed outside her home near her vehicle. Her longtime boyfriend called police when shots were fired.
