Authorities in Dauphin County allege that Hummelstown police officer Lisa Mearkle shot 59-year-old David Kassick twice on Feb. 2 in the back as he lay face-down.​

A camera mounted on a taser helped convince Dauphin County District Attorney Edward M. Marsico Jr. to charge a veteran Hummelstown police officer with homicide last month.

Now Officer Lisa Mearkle's attorneys are trying to make sure that evidence doesn't become public before a potential trial.

Mearkle was arrested on March 24 in the Feb. 2 shooting death of David Kassick, whom Mearkle had attempted to pull over for expired inspection and emissions stickers before he sped away.

The chase ended near Kassick's sister's home, where he had been living for a short time.

Kassick tried to flee on foot before Mearkle incapacitated him with a taser, held in her left hand. He was on the ground, lying face-down, when she shot him twice in the back with the gun in her right hand, police said.​
