Just over six months after Aubrey got her own phone, her parents discovered a second, older iPhone hidden in her room. When confronted, Aubrey admitted she convinced a boy at school to give it to her, and he told his parents he lost it. She paid for a new iCloud account to use on the phone, bypassing both her parents’ restrictions and rules on phone usage. Aubrey was extremely upset when her parents took both phones away and grounded her

At 10:00 p.m. on January 10, Palmer Township police knocked on Aubrey Wu’s door, asking her parents to wake her for a welfare check. Officers said Aubrey’s boyfriend, a boy her parents didn’t know, begged his parents to call police after he hadn’t heard from her in more than 24 hours. Stepfather John Gehrmann called upstairs for Aubrey several times but got no answer.

Security camera footage revealed she had crawled out her bedroom window, crept across the roof, shimmied down a grate, and disappeared into a back alley behind their home more than three hours earlier.

*Enci "Aubrey" Wu, a 14-year-old girl was reported missing on January 10th. Now, her family fears she may be a victim of sex trafficking.

Am I crazy or does the story keep changing? And if this is the accurate story, how would an unknown boyfriend realize something's wrong before her parents who live with her?

Something is not adding up here. JMO.

A person unknown to parents requesting a welfare check/knowing something was wrong before the parents doesn't surprise me - people online are more connected than ever before. like on FB Messenger or iMessage you can see 'active status' and know if someone is offline for extended periods of time and get worried.

There's even a story about two people in a gaming session and the one over in Texas who knew something was wrong (the other person was having a seizure) and alerted the police in the UK to do a check. Parents were completely taken off guard since they didn't know at all what was happening in their son's room. (BBC story)

My questions: what exactly is a 'structured lifestyle' and is there something special or different about 'private therapy'.

Edited to add: also what do they mean by 'paid' for an iCloud account. iCloud accounts are free. You can set up another ID that isn't under the Apple ID 'family' (which I presume is the phone usage/restrictions) but by no means does it have to be paid. If there is a paid plan, well, someone had to have paid it, which could be a paper trail/clue to trace.

You can pay for an iCloud+ plan, which includes storage and a few other features.

Right, I understand that. What I'm asking is why Aubrey had an iCloud+ plan, if that is correct. I presume her parents had control or could set limits through the Apple ID family configuration, in which each user is classified as an adult or child. to get around that, you can create a new Apple ID account, and sign into it on a new device, which the parents would be unaware of/unable to monitor. But that account doesn't need to be on a paid plan to accomplish this.

Moreover, if the boy from school reported the phone that he gave her as lost, it should have (or would have) blacklisted it for future cellular service. But this isn't a big deal since it can still be used with Wi-Fi. (Although no cell service makes it harder on LE since not using minutes/texts/data, like in the Mekayla Bali case.)

The latest article says that she had two phones and her parents confiscated both. An earlier article says that she had disposed of a burner phone before leaving the area (this was when the last known location was high school). So is this a third phone she has, or merely a mistake in LE's information/timeline or reporting of it?

It's a good question; my assumption is that the extra storage space to back up and sync her photos, files, etc might be the draw for a paid plan, especially if she had that many phones. MOO

Enci Aubrey Wu is still missing. It has been 2 months now.

Her stepdad and mom have created a FB group page to help find her (which I believe is allowed here). I haven’t really had time to sort through it but there are posts and videos and links to videos they have made with others to spread the word.

“The disappearance of a Palmer Township teentwo months ago is not considered a criminal matter, Northampton County’s district attorney said Tuesday.

District Attorney Stephen Baratta also said in a news release that law enforcement authorities believe Enci “Aubrey” Wu’s intent was to leave the Lehigh Valley…

She was last seen Jan. 11 along MacArthur Road in Whitehall Township. She was seeking transportation and possibly money from strangers, Baratta said.

“There have been no confirmed reports regarding the whereabouts of Ms. Wu since that day,” Baratta said.”

From the family’s search group:

“We have been blessed to receive support in last 24 hours from:
• Polly Klaas Foundation (Home - The Polly Klaas Foundation)

• Gabby Petito Foundation (Gabby Petito Alliance)

Assume it will take a few days to fully matriculate but wanted to share we are in communication and speaking with their teams.

Thank you to everyone for your efforts helping Aubrey's story reach these two dedicated platforms.”

“Jade and John told Dateline both had noticed their daughter was acting a bit withdrawn in the period leading up to her disappearance. Her grades had also started to slip a bit. “So the night before she left, we start to ask her questions about it,” Jade said. “So we are trying to ask her to understand what is going on.”

“She was eating less than normal,” John added. “I was a little concerned.” […]

They let the officers into their home, who explained they were there for a welfare check. “This woman called in and requested that the Palmer police come to our house to confirm that Aubrey was home and safe because their son was crying hysterical to the mother, claiming that he speaks with our daughter every single day and that he hadn’t heard from her in 24 hours…

Aubrey was “seeking transportation and/or funds from strangers” while in the vicinity of MacArthur Road in the area where the Wawa is located.

Authorities are looking at Aubrey as a runaway. “In my career, this is one of the longest ones that has not decided to come home or even called home or even called a family member, let alone calling their close friends, or—or a neighbor or something.”

I would love to know how they figured out that the picture of here with the baggy pants and mask and hat is her. Seems like they must have had reason to be looking, like tracking a phone.
According to this post, they believe it’s her because of this sweatshirt(?) she’s wearing. Still not sure why they checked there specifically, except that it may have been close to somewhere else she was spotted early on… or she still had a phone then before it was disposed off.

That doesn't look like a hoodie or a jacket, but a long sleeved tshirt. There's nothing about the neckline that looks like there's a hood attached or a division in front for a zip or button closure.

MOO

If you watch the video I took the pic from, it looks like a pullover sweatshirt. Has a word in the same spot. Not sure where the hood is coming from either; I also wondered. Thin hoodie under it? *shrugs*

Also has her without the hood or hat in a second photo and similar hair.

Thank goodness! He's been exhibiting a lot of alarming behavior.

Hm, I'm sorry, but if Aubrey was my kid and I suspected someone of being directly involved in her disappearance. I'd want answers too.

By all accounts Aubrey's home environment seems strained, almost corporal.

Was Aubrey living with the step?
Are the people the step-dad is allegedly harassing connected to the boy that urged his mother to call the police to do a welfare check at Aubrey's home?

I hope this young lady is in a safe place, maybe she's hiding.
