I wonder if he was adopted by them, or if they groomed him, essentially fooling him into thinking they were loving (ick) adults that cared about him, basically sucking him into their web of deception. Not cool.

I would say, option "B", as in grooming. Adoptive parents probably would have been identified simply as "parents".

Though there is no information as to the victim's background, the couple may of had a practice of opening their home to various at risk youth. There might be other victims out there.

He might not necessarily deserve the exact same charges as his wife, but bare minimum it's child endangerment if he knew about it and did nothing (which the texts seem to confirm). Maybe he was into it, or maybe he was so wahchoo-ed that his wife would openly hit on other men/boys and he wouldn't say anything. Not that one is any more excusable than the other.
