'He doesn't deserve to live,' sister says as brother's 66-year-old killer gets life in prison

Douglas Samuels didn't look at Wanda Stewart-Cook even once Monday morning as she railed at him for murdering her brother along a Harrisburg street.

The very thought of her slain sibling, 51-year-old Freddie Stewart Jr., sent Stewart-Cook into a paroxysm of weeping.

"He doesn't deserve to live, the way he took my brother out," she told Dauphin County Judge John J. McNally. "It's just pitiful. It's so sad."

Samuels, 66, was convicted of first-degree murder last month for the August 2017 shotgun slaying of Stewart on Jefferson Street.

For Samuels, there was only one legally possible outcome as he stood before McNally on Monday. He faced, and received, a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
