A Delaware County family and state police are seeking the public's help in locating a missing 54-year-old man who was last seen early Friday.

John Carlton Morphet, who lives in Clifton Heights but was staying at a family home in Middetown, was last seen early Friday morning when he walked away from the family home on War Trophy Lane.

His family members believe Morphet is in crisis following the recent death of his father and the resulting suicide of his brother.

Morphet, 54, left his family home near Media early Friday while suffering a psychiatric crisis, shortly before he was scheduled to receive outpatient treatment. According to family members, Morphet was denied in-patient treatment at a hospital after telling doctors there that he was not suicidal.

Members of Morphet’s family are now fearing the worst.

“John is severely depressed, irrational and delusional,” said his brother Tom Morphet. “He left home on foot without his wallet, a phone or his keys. He needs immediate psychiatric care. Our family already is grieving two family deaths. We are throwing a lifeline out to the Philadelphia community to try to find our brother.”

Morphet is 6 feet tall, bald, 220 pounds, with brown eyes. He left 64 War Trophy Lane in the Lima section of Middletown between 6:15-9:30 a.m. Friday, March 15, destination unknown. He was last seen wearing a black windbreaker, dark slacks and white tennis shoes.

Pennsylvania State Troopers are also looking for Morphet and assisting in the investigation.

“John is a gentle soul who is well-known around Media and Clifton Heights as a restaurant cook and musician. He is not violent or dangerous, but he was incapable of caring for himself at this time,” Tom Morphet said.
