WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING CO. (WOLF) — The Little League has reported that a coach for the Cuba team has gone missing.

According to Kevin Fountain, Senior Director of Communications, Jose Perez, a coach with Bayamo, Cuba, disappeared Saturday night.

Perez reportedly left the Little League International Grove late at night and never returned.

State police officials told WKOK News Radio and the Daily Item in Sunbury their officers are not involved with any investigation into the disappearance of Perez.

It is too early to define the missing coach as one who has defected, because of the lack of details.

I was going to comment that this happened a couple of years ago with a group of Cuban athletes, and when I Googled it I was shocked to see it happens all the time, and even multiple times per year. Apparently sports is just a beard for people to get into the US and stay without following proper immigration channels.
