Northampton man admits killing his father

Jason J. Myirski will spend 9½ to 20 years in state prison, a sentence that Northampton County Judge Jennifer Sletvold immediately imposed, saying she was persuaded that his fragile mental state contributed to the crime.

Myirski, an Army veteran who was deployed in Iraq, offered no apology or explanation as he admitted opening fire on his father last year, shooting 64-year-old Joseph Myirski Jr. through a closed bedroom door as the elder man went to check on a noise.

“This is just a very, very sad case for the family,” Sletvold said.

“I now live with all of my loss,” the mother said in a statement read by Majewski. “There was no hostility, only a tragic ending for all.

“I hope and pray, please get Jason all the help he needs,” the mother said.
