This awful crime happened about 10 minutes away from my house, in a beautiful and bucolic part of Bucks County, the kind of place where violent crime is rare.
I am especially horrified by the fact that this elderly gentleman died because the stairlift on which he was reliant to travel from his bedroom to the home’s first floor failed owing to the fire which was deliberately set by the lowlife ex-con boyfriend of his adult daughter. Mr. Drelick’s wife escaped, but I don’t know how she will endure the agony of knowing her husband was trapped in the home as the flames raged out of control. The exact scenario (being trapped in a burning home due to mobility issues/physical disability) is actually one of my worst fears for my own elderly folks, one of whom (like Mr. Drelick) relies on a stairlift to reach the home’s ground floor.
I know the Commonwealth of PA doesn’t use capital punishment anymore, but boy, would I like to see them make an exception for this

(though I’m thinking he is more deserving of execution by fire than death by firing squad).
Not sure what he hoped to accomplish here, unless it was a way of exacting pain on his girlfriend OR trying to expedite some inheritance she stood to collect.
