Kia Johnson was 18 years old and 36 weeks pregnant when authorities said Andrea Curry-Demus, 40, abducted her.

Now that Andrea Curry-Demus is getting treatment for her mental illness, she will have to face the enormity of her crime, both her lawyer and the prosecutor said.

A judge on Monday sentenced her to life plus 10 to 20 years in prison for the kidnapping and evisceration of a pregnant woman, Kia Johnson, 18, to steal the baby...

The killer, convicted Jan. 25 in a nonjury trial of second-degree murder but mentally ill, announced a brief apology to the family of Ms. Johnson.
