Found Deceased PA - Kim “Darlene” Ezell, 59, roommate shot to death, Philadelphia, 4 Jan 2022 *Arrest*

Family members say 59-year-old Darlene Ezell last spoke to her daughter over the phone on Jan. 4. When Ezell's children went to her home in North Philadelphia the next day, she was not there and her 78-year-old roommate was naked and shot to death in a storage room.

"We went in the back room we saw the guy with no clothes on, he was shot in a storage room in the back of the kitchen, he had been shot inside there," Jameilla Ezell said.

Police later arrested 30-year-old Walter Heard Jr. in the killing of Ezell's roommate. He was charged with murder, aggravated assault and robbery.

Still, Ezell's loved ones and detectives do not know what happened to Darlene. Family members have spent the days since her disappearance posting fliers throughout Philadelphia.

We are out here every day a lot of people are out here looking for her a lot," Jameilla said.

I skimmed and thought someone was mistaken about the town as there was a Darlene of similar age murdered in Pennsauken last week. But no, another poor Darlene .

It always shocks me that something happens ( like in this case) 1/4. Family notices/calls the police 1/5 and on 1/19 it hits MSM. IMO. Praying for Kim/Darlene's safe return.

Police were called to the 1700 block of West Allegheny Avenue at approximately 12:06 p.m.

Inside the home, they found a 77-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.

I don’t know about these two, but life is expensive and it’s not that unusual for seniors to reduce their expenses with a roommate. I’ve seen it mostly with older widowed men and a single female who may or may not be retired…the widower may have never learned to cook/clean and the other one may need income. JMO.

Not necessarily. I don't see what age has to do with it. Maybe they were helping each other.

Philadelphia police have arrested 31-year-old Walter M. Heard in connection to the homicide. He's charged with murder and related offenses.

Her children say he's also the son of the landlord, who their mom is renting from.

"It's hard waking up every day and not knowing," said Jamar Ezell, her son. "I miss her a lot."

"He was just a wonderful person. She would come here like help out people if she had extra money," said Eric Taing, from North Philadelphia.

Ezell says she broke into her mom's house that day on the 1700 block of West Allegheny Avenue after her mom wasn't answering any phone calls.

That's where she made the horrifying discovery.

Her mom's 77-year -old roommate was shot and killed around noon.

She called police, and now the search is on for where her mom is.

Walter Heard Jr. is my cousin. I am in complete shock that he is being accused of murder! I am praying for the family of the victim, and praying that Darlene’s whereabouts will be made known to her loved ones. Any information that anyone has will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Where’s her phone, wallet, etc? All I’ve seen in articles is that her family wasn’t able to reach her by phone.

I wonder if he took her to try to force her to take money out of an ATM? Or something similar? What other motive would he have to take her?
