PA PA - Louis Mackerley, 7, Allentown, 7 June 1984

If this is the case with Ritalin, im disturbed that not only was this 7 year old boy allowed to roam the neighborhood of Allentown at night alone (Charley Project states that Louis liked to stay out till dark and was usually home by 930!) but told family and school that a man and woman were preying on him....and still, no supervision. Having possible memory lapses!? Heartbreaking
It was different times. I used to stay out late since I was 7 or 8 too

My layperson opinion: Ritalin only works for part of a day, and then you need another dose, to help with concentration or impulse control. It's not like you lose your ability to function or forget your life without it. Some kids completely stop taking it over summer break. They don't forget their identity, address, etc. I think there's also an extended-release form, but still. Theoretically a child could probably be brainwashed into forgetting, though.

Some parents hold on to hope their missing child will come home forever, and that is okay. I probably would.

Another article from 100 days after Louis disappeared. Answers many questions asked in this thread about the kids he hid from, the neighbor he loved to visit, and about his parents and siblings.

His mother’s obit brought tears to my eyes. Died in hospice at 66 years old, still believing Louis was alive.

And one more article from 1990.
Even the FBI seem to feed into the belief he was alive.

I was able to read the articles although I am not a subscriber to this newspaper. The following quote from the first article (referring to a previous issue with Louis's teeth), I found interesting.

"Herman said the agency found no evidence of parental neglect and that the children were not left unattended.

“We did not come to the conclusion they were neglecting Louis, but they were less aware of his coming and going than normal. That was probably due to his hyperactivity,” said Herman. “Our record shows it was really his doings, not the parents’.”

Louis was used to rural New Jersey where he had relatives and people tended to know each other, according to these articles, and his family had only moved to Allentown slightly less than a year before (June of 1983).

Makes sense. No I don't think he was neglected
