DALMATIA, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a body found in the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania over the weekend may have been there for several months.

PennLive.com reports that state police say a kayaker spotted the body at about 7 p.m. Saturday in the river in Northumberland County.

Investigators say the body was lodged in debris from the previously receded high waters at Zeigler Island, which is southwest of Dalatia in Lower Mahanoy Township.

DALMATIA — Authorities still have no new information on the identity of the body found on a Susquehanna River island in lower Northumberland County on Saturday evening.

A dispatcher at the Stonington state police barracks said thursday evening there were no updates on the report. Attempts to reach Northumberland County Coroner James Kelley via phone and email were unsuccessful.

Mowery's vehicle was found by the water about 30 miles upstream, so he seems very likely.

Henry's a possibility. He was a couple of miles from the river when last seen, so who knows.

DALMATIA -- The identity of the man whose body was found a week ago on the edge of an island in the Susquehanna River in southern Northumberland County still has not been confirmed.

But Coroner James F. Kelley said he has sent a bone sample to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification in Fort Worth, Texas, for comparison with samples on file from families of missing people.
DNA of family members of a male missing from Bloomsburg since Jan. 14, 2016, are on file there, but Kelley would not say if that is the comparison he has requested.

The center performs forensic genetic and anthropological examinations for criminal casework and missing persons identification.

It manages the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, from which Sunbury Police Chief Timothy S. Miller is awaiting the results of DNA samples in the Barbara Miller cold case homicide.
