OIL CITY, Pa. —

Police have launched a homicide investigation after a missing woman was found dead in Venango County.

A joint statement Wednesday from the county district attorney, coroner and Oil City chief of police said that police had responded to a woman found dead on an Oil City bike trail early morning Monday.

Officials say the initial investigation at the scene was not conclusive to the manner and cause of death. Following an autopsy, the investigation of the woman's death had been upgraded to a homicide investigation.

Oil City Firefighters IAFF Local #700 identified the woman as Marcy Nellis on their Facebook page.

OIL CITY, Pa. (KDKA) - Venango County officials are warning people to be cautious when using trails in the community while the death of a missing woman is being treated as a homicide.

OIL CITY, Pa. (KDKA) - An intense search is underway for the person who killed an older woman in Venango County.

If you live in Oil City, chances are you've walked or biked the Oil City Trail. The two-mile pathway runs along the Allegheny River and Oil Creek and is where many Oil City residents go for exercise. Marcy Nellis is one of those.

Sunday afternoon around 3:30, police say she left her home for a walk and never returned.

"Everyone says it'll never happen here until it does and it did," said Bill Weller with the Allegheny Valley Trails Association.

When news hit this small town, trail president Bill Weller says fear has set in.

"Because it's ongoing, they've released nothing. Until they know, we won't know," Weller said.

While information as to what exactly happened to Nellis is limited, police on Friday said they have no suspects at this time but urge people to use caution when on the trail.

"For years, we've always stressed to women, especially that if you're going to be on the trail, take someone with you. Don't go run or walk alone. There's always safety in numbers," Weller said.

Was there a rumor or something about an additional body? I was hoping that this news article would have provided an update on the search for this woman's killers, but so far all I can find about an ongoing investigation into her death is this short article: Investigation Continues into the Homicide of Marcy Suzette Nellis

Yes, there were rumors but that is all it was according to LE. This is why they had the local media update the public. Marcy’s death was ruled a homicide so I’m sure everyone is on high alert until a suspect is in custody. No indication whether it was a targeted or a random attack so there is heightened security in that area for now. Hope they catch them as soon as possible.

From the above link:

"White said Bosley became an immediate person of interest in the case. Bosley and Nellis lived less than half a mile away from each other.

A rape kit was performed, and the results allegedly linked Bosley to the crime. Bosley is listed on the state police Megan's Law website as a sexually violent predator with crimes dating back to 1990."

What a sick individual. He needs to be behind bars indefinitely. He should have already been!

Glad they got him. Thank you for the update.

Details at link of how they caught the killer through DNA and footprints.

Bosley advised officers that one of the marks on his left cheek area was from fishing equipment he was using. Other areas include marks on his hands and/or forearm or wrist area.

Marcy fought back.
:(

Detectives told Channel 11 they don’t believe Bosley knew Nellis and that the killing was random.

An autopsy found that the cause of death was asphyxiation due to manual strangulation and that Nellis had been sexually assaulted.

Evidence was sent to a crime lab where DNA profiling was done. The results linked Bosley to the crime, according to White.

Nellis’ pastor said she was a lifelong member of Good Hope Lutheran Church. Nellis went walking every day and exercise was one of her passions.
