Resolved PA - Philadelphia Police trying to identify body of decomposed male, 2018

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Police Department Homicide Unit is attempting to identify the decomposed and partially skeletonized body of a man, which was recovered on Aug. 9, 2018.

The man had numerous distinctive tattoos on his chest and arms. Police released a video on Monday that includes an artist's rendering of what the tattoos are believed to have looked like, as well as photographs of some of items of clothing recovered with the body.

Philadelphia police are investigating the discovery of a body in the surrounding area of I-95 in Southwest Philadelphia.

Authorities found the body just after 12 p.m. on Thursday in the 7900 block of Penrose Ferry Road and Bartram Avenue, not far from the highway.

Police said that the body is too decomposed for them to determine the individual's gender, age or race, or how the person died.

The medical examiner will work to identify the remains and determine the exact cause of death.
