OMG. This is so awful

You can’t tell me that the 4 year old he had bound with duct tape in the trunk was able to get out and run into the yard without the help of Gramma

<modsnipped against tos>

Just saw this --

4-Year-Old Girl Escapes After Man Allegedly Snatches Her From Bed, Stuffs Her in Wooden Trunk
Thomas Dewald claimed he was searching the neighborhood for children living in "deplorable conditions"

A Pennsylvania man is behind bars after he allegedly crept into a home, kidnapped a 4-year-old girl from her second-floor bedroom, bound her hands, wrists and ankles with tape and then stuffed her into a wooden trunk at his grandparents’ house.
[...]
Police searched the home and discovered a large wooden chest directly under the air conditioning unit in the bedroom.

“Several large strips of long blonde hair (similar to the hair on the [victim]) was located inside the wooden chest in the bedroom,” the complaint states.
[...]
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 14. It is unclear if he has retained an attorney.

A Pennsylvania family is crediting their recently adopted 4-year-old rescue dog, Edgar, with helping to thwart an alleged child abduction attempt in their home on April 28.

Thom Lambert, 40, told FOX43 that Edgar, a Treeing Walker Coonhound, recently frightened a man police believe to be 20-year-old Thomas Dewald, away from their home in the middle of the night.

Dewald was accused of abducting another child three days earlier before allegedly stuffing her in a wooden trunk at his grandmother’s house before the girl escaped.

“It was like a growl-howl,” Lambert told FOX43 about the noise Edgar made that alerted the family to an intruder inside the home. “It was obvious he was really upset and as soon as I got him to quit barking, I heard sounds of someone going down the stairs.”

Lambert said he went downstairs to check on the noise on April 28 when he discovered that the kitchen window and door were open, Pennlive.comreports. He told the paper that he immediately ran back upstairs to check on his three young daughters, who were asleep in their beds, before calling 911.

“The dog started barking and woke up the homeowner and scared away Dewald. That dog potentially saved the little girls’ lives,” Pennsylvania State Trooper Megan Frazer tells PEOPLE. “The dog is a hero.”

“It is scary,” she adds.

Frazer says Dewald admitted to going inside the Lamberts’ home on April 28.

“When they interviewed Dewald, he admitted to picking out that house because he knew there were young children in there,” she says.

I had thought the guy was arrested on April 26... but I guess he was not. That's terrifiying that AFTER the 4 year old escaped, he tried it again within 72 hours!

Dogs just know these things. They know danger, they know sickness, unhappiness, depression, and certainly they know happiness and delight. What a wonderful dog.

Now -- this guy. I feel sure many of us are thinking that this guy is heading for trouble. Little step, all okay. Bigger step, all okay, I'll be more aggressive next time...
I don't know how this charge will be handled nor what the penalty will be if he pleads guilty or he is found to be guilty. I just hope some manner of punishment will be pronounced because, IMHO, this man will more than likely step up his scary activities. Kidnapping is a serious offense. Thank goodness that is all that it is. Whew.

I hope this man will get scared straight, but the Spidey Sense says no.

Here's a bit about Kidnapping Law in PA:
Overview of Pennsylvania Kidnapping Laws
According to Pennsylvania criminal law, a person commits the crime of kidnapping in one of two ways. First, kidnapping occurs when a person "unlawfully removes another a substantial distance under the circumstances" from the place where he or she is found. Whether the victim has been removed a "substantial distance" is determined on a case-by-case basis. However, the requirement is generally satisfied where the distance imposed isolates the victim and exposes him or her to an increased risk of harm, and is not merely incidental to commission of another crime necessarily involving movement or force, such as robbery.
Alternatively, a person is guilty of kidnapping when he or she "unlawfully confines another for a substantial period in a place of isolation." Like the determination of "substantial distance," the victim's confinement for a "substantial period" is also an individualized inquiry, and may depend on the victim's mental state. However, the victim need not be left alone in order to be confined in "a place of isolation."
A person "unlawfully" removes or confines another person when such removal or confinement is accomplished by force, threat or deception, or without the consent of the person's parent, guardian or other person responsible for general supervision of his or her welfare, when the victim is under the age of 14 years or an incapacitated person.
[...]
Penalties Charged as a 1st degree felony (prison sentence of up to 20 years).
The defendant's intent to inflict bodily harm on the victim or another person will not be negated if he or she does not actually inflict bodily harm on such person.
[...]
Penalties and Sentences
Pennsylvania criminal law classifies kidnapping as a felony of the first degree. Convictions for such felonies are punishable by a sentence of imprisonment of up to 20 years. The court may also impose a fine which is the greater of up to $25,000 or any higher amount consisting of double the defendant's gain from commission of the crime.
