PA - Woman escapes kidnapper after 3 weeks

A man kidnapped a woman and held her captive inside a rooming house in Bethlehem for three weeks, beating and sexually assaulting her until she escaped and made her way to a hospital, police said Friday.

He shot her up with heroin and tried to prostitute her. He had just met her through an acquaintance.

Steven Kitchell, 34, was arrested Wednesday in Newark as Bethlehem police worked with the U.S. Marshals Service and New Jersey police agencies, city police said.

The victim had been at the Montclair Avenue address since May 23, according to court papers. She went to the home with another woman, who was dating Kitchell, court papers said.
