Peter Joseph Becci was murdered in his own home in 1987. This occurred in Shawnee Township near Lima, and Shawnee had one of the lowest crime rates in the state at the time.

I remember this case well as I was in school in Lima when this happened. I was thinking about it and searched to see if there were any updates.

This murder occurred in a very affluent subdivision, and my mom was a teacher at a Shawnee school.

A friend of my dad’s worked for the disaster restoration company. He was responsible for removing carpet, cleaning the floors, and then replacing with new carpet.

We knew several families who lived in Shawnee subdivisions that were near the one where this murder occurred. So this was a huge topic of discussion between my parents and their friends.

While not necessarily affluent nor a subdivision, the first thing I thought of when reading this was growing up in the early 80's in the other corner of Ohio, farm country with an equally very low rate of crime, was a couple murders and attempted murders that occurred. When I was in the 3rd grade, probably 1980, or their abouts, the father of a young lady I went to school with narrowly survived a car bombing, losing his legs. The same man was later ( a couple years IIRC) shot, execution style, through the front window of his home. Additionally, a man building a home down the road from my grandmother was shot and killed by a sniper from an adjacent corn field while surveying the construction of a home he was having built. All of these turned out to be the result of a mafia war between the Detroit ( maybe Cleveland ) and Pittsburgh Mob families. Which led me to think about that possibility here.

Also, is it convenient that the wife and kids were out eating dinner? In the first instance that I mentioned above, I believe that the mans wife and child were out of the house when the killing occurred. I also always found it odd that someone would sit with their back to a large front window, at night, when you know their are people that are trying to kill you.
