Pictured: World's oldest mother out with her 3-year-old

I have to ask a question to the people that say that what she did is selfish (having a kid so late in life with a not so good plan for the girl when she passes away).

Here is my question.

The family in England abandoned their baby girls at the hospital last week (leaving them to be adopted). If I recall, that mom was 59 and the dad was 72. At high school graduation, the mom would be 77 and the dad would be 90 if they lived that long. I know that case caused outrage because the babies were abandoned simply because of gender. Still, if you think it would be better for the little girl in this story to be raised by someone else, wouldn't you also think the little girls in the other story are best to be raised by someone else? I ask because that story was slanted to make us mad at the parents for leaving those girls and this story is slanted to irritate people that this lady kept the girl. :waitasec:

Just speaking for myself, I'm irritated that she went through all the trouble to get pregnant with this girl at such an advanced age knowing that there was a pretty good chance that she wouldn't be alive to see her grow very much. My thought was that there are plenty of kids who are orphans (like the baby girls whose parents dropped them off) who could benefit from her care and attention. To me, it seems that instead of helping the orphans already here, she's creating a new one for selfish reasons.

Hope that makes sense and like I said, I'm only speaking for myself.

70-year-old mother of three-year-old-daughter: I did this for women everywhere

'I'm very happy that Eliza's birth was a world record and also a breakthrough for Romanian medicine. We should be proud of it,' says Adriana. 'We and the doctors opened a new road, just as climbers discover a new path on a mountain.'

She is inordinately proud of herself for holding the record for becoming the oldest woman to give birth, but woe betide anyone who actually calls her 'old'.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...year-old-daughter-I-did-women-everywhere.html

Interesting article on the woman who is, according to the writer, "A rather volatile and eccentric character, she has stopped talking to the local press for daring to call her just that and is as fastidious about her appearance as a fashion conscious teenager."

much more than was in the original story on this thread at the link. nothing which doesn't confirm my belief she's extremely self-centred, although she believes the baby is God's will.

I find it hard to believe she never smoked. She looks like the crypt keeper! My 75 yr old grandma looks 20 years younger than her!

Oh geez,, leave her alone already. What's done is done, and at least she's a loving mom and not abusing the girl... she probably spends more quality time with her than the majority of upper-middle class moms in this country... or young mothers who are out partying and doing meth.. you get the picture. At least she is 100% committed to the idea of being a mother to this girl, and is probably savoring every moment, which is more than I can say for those frantic, SUV-driving soccer moms who are so busy driving their big tanks around town, shopping and gabbing on their cell phones (how's that for a cliche'?) they barely notice their kids growing up at all.
don't think most 67-yr old women are going to opt for this. I hope not anyway. She's certainly not the most self-centered woman on earth.. but I hope it doesn't become a trend.. mostly because we have too many people on the planet as it is,, and yes the age/lifespan is obviously an issue. (and she couldn't breastfeed obviously, which is a disadvantage..)

Nope. i can't leave this alone. as i said earlier, i experienced very old 'parents' for my grandmother's selfish reasons and it was awful. :)

what's done may be done. i hope it isn't done again. geez or no. :)

She does....
Contrary to what others may say, a 70 year old woman has no business having a child.

Well... it is true that when you start messing with mother nature too much,, it's not a good thing... there's a reason women usually have kids up until a certain age.. and this IS another example of technology overtaking common sense. However... it's too bad if she's persecuted... if her daughter experiences any disadvantages (besides the obvious)-- ostracizing and taunting both of them is only going to cause her more...

Here's a thought... what about these men who are having children when they are in their 60's, 70's, and so on?? Isn't that selfish and wrong too....??? Or do we just file that under 'Boys will be boys'.......??
I realize the female is usually the primary caregiver, but still......

reb,
I agree with you about older men having kids. I don't think it's right. IMO, It seems selfish for anyone this age to have a child when they know good and well they will die before the child is a legal adult. Know what I mean?

Yep. the men fathering babies when they are an advanced age are wrong too.

in the article it says her neighbours aren't persecuting her, in fact, "No one bats an eyelid. Indeed, the women in her neighbourhood I spoke to were unanimous in their admiration for her. One told me: 'It is a terrible thing to be lonely and alone, so I understand her.'".

other children will ostracize and taunt. that's what children do.

Wow.
I don't know what to think about this woman.
She is only a few years younger than my grandma who has health issues but completely able to raise a child.
But at the same time, this woman has no support system other than a doctor who may or may not be in this childs life and a small pension.

She loves this child, that is obvious yet the child spends a lot of time in the daycare while mom works then RELAXES.

I just don't know.

What happens to this darling child if mommy passes on soon?

What about teaching her to ride a bike? Play hopscotch? Play tag? Regular little girl stuff.
I just so worry about that child. :( Pta meetings and girl scouts and what about future sleepovers?
I'm so sorry, but I think what this woman did was selfish.

She should have just gotten herself a poodle!

Now that would have been a stellar idea! When she gets pooped, her and the poodle could have just napped.
Now she has to chase a 3 year old and keep her safe.
To me, this is scay. :(
