HELENA — The pilot of a single-engine plane that crashed and killed 14 people in Butte in 2009 cut safety corners and then did not take the appropriate action after discovering a problem with his fuel system, the National Transportation Safety Board concluded Tuesday.

The entire article is very interesting to say the least. ​

What a tragedy. So often though these accidents arent caused by rank amatures but experienced pilots that do get cocky and think they can cut corners.
Scores of fatal crashes are caused by pilots with tons of visual flying experience but arent certified for-but know just enough about to be truly dangerous- instrument only flying.
They overestimate their abilty to function without visual reference and fly into conditions they shouldnt and soon find themselves over their heads.
JFK jr. and Buddy Holly and Patsy Cline's pilots are prime examples.
