Uggghh I am so frustrated with the way this last hearing unfolded. No explanation of anything. The only thing of value was when BK answered Yes to the question: "are you pleading guilty because you are guilty?".
All along we've been told all our questions would be answered at trial, because the prosecution had soooooo much more than what was in the PCA. And instead when it was his turn to speak BT basically just read us the PCA. They had nothing more? Really? How didappointing.
BK is guilty. That doesn't even begin to answer the why. I guess there will be no allocution and we and the families will be left to speculate forever. How can one have closure in without an explanation. This is the part that feels most unfair.

I expect we will eventually know.

After sentencing, the press and others will be filing FOIAs left and right. Plus, there will be books — whether Blum does a rewrite, or BK’s prof (KR) gets him to tell her, or even BT decides to write in retirement. The story will emerge and meanwhile we know the world is safer with BK locked up, for sure, forever.

KR line is out of context, did she say the capacity to be self-reflective on his actions or the impact of his actions? Watching him over the months, I believe he does have that capacity. He's mostly in his head examining and analyzing, detached like a researcher looking at data. jmo

That is interesting. I wonder if this shows up in individuals who have never shown any tendencies toward murder but then murder a spouse. Do they also lack behavioral control?

This study does not differentiate in terms of the setting of the murders. I have seen studies of serial killers that suggest that additional differences exist from the normal brain.

Remember that the gag order is still in place. We will get more at sentencing and more after the gag order is lifted. The plea change hearing was not the place for that.

The problem with her statement is that self-reflection is not simply "Intellectual." It requires humility (the ability to admit you're wrong), courage (the ability to look inward and face your "dark" side), empathy or at least the awareness of others as people separate from the self, and the capacity to feel because you are not just "reflecting" on events but on how they impact others.

BK can't do any of that. But her analysis says some things about her.

Revisiting this article:

If MM was in fact BK's primary intended victim, I think it's highly probable he saw her at the Greek restaurant where she waitressed, fixated on her for whatever reason, followed her home, and then began stalking her.

I don't recall reading anything in any of the court documents about it ever being established that BK ate at the restaurant at the same time that MM or XK were working a shift. Surely LE knows that, though. They know what he ordered, so they know what time he was there. And the restaurant would know what time both MM and XK worked shifts. Easy to check that.

The cold and random nature of his selection is particularly evil.

Puts me in mind of Israel Keyes. BK was definitely a SK in the making.

On the day this tragic story broke in national news, I went online and searched for images of college girls in Moscow, Idaho and a whole lot of pictures of both MM and KG came up (instagram, facebook, other). IOW, they both had an online presence identifying themselves as students at U of I. Their carefully curated style and "twin" poses were striking and even before we knew their names, I thought they stood out.

I was easily able to find Instagrams for both girls. The Greek restaurant owner denied that BK had ever been there, IIRC, but on what basis, I do not know. It seemed to me that if BK paid cash (as students often do), they would have no record of him nor would he have been particularly memorable unless he asked for something strange. The restaurant appeared on some internet lists of "vegan friendly" restaurants in Moscow, ID. OTOH, if he was stalking MM, he would have gone there for that reason.

We will probably never know, but I am curious as to whether BK had a history of breaking and entering and snooping around, as so many serial killers do. If he intended to SA MM and everything went wrong, he may well have been escalating to sex offender.

If my theory about possible online "interaction" (BK at least perusing MM's and KG's social media) is true, then he may have moved from a form of online stalking to physical stalking. I can see the appeal of that for him. It would indeed be chilling to find out that he had already seen pictures of MM and KG before even moving to Washington. It's possible. The pictures went back in time for a couple of years and included family vacation photos and an awful lot of "personalizing" information, such that a disturbed person like BK could imagine himself in a parasocial relationship with them or with one of them.

It's possible, too, that he knew that KG had moved out (through peeping and stalking). He would therefore have been surprised to see her there (she had a new car).

All speculation. JMO or personal observation.

I am most curious as to how BK will react sitting there listening to the victim impact statements? Will he zone out and sit there like a lump of coal, or will he be affected in any way?

It depends.

During the impact statements for Whitney Heichel, relatives looked straight at the killer and addressed their statements at him. Others have had their statements directed to the judge.

In M00 if they are directed to the judge then we will see a lump of coal with no emotion. If they are directed directly to BK, he may get irritated or angry.

He does get irritated and sarcastic when things dont go his way. Does anyone remember the bazaar way he was acting toward a college girl at a bar? He asked for her address. When she rebuffed him he got all snarky and mad.

Considering that BK wouldn't even speak to enter a plea at his arraignment, I think responding "yes" to the names of each victim during the plea hearing is all we are getting out of BK! It was noted by the Judge I was listening to during the hearing that there was also no requirement spelled out in his plea agreement. JMO

With you , right after plea, I enlarged stills too and those brows were certainly disappeared looking and exactly as you have said.. skull like, he had a hollow look and the shirt weirdness too, as if it was almost pinched at the neck.

I suppose the idea was to convince the jury that the "bushy eyebrows" description eliminated BK as a suspect.

I do believe BK will get off on seeing the pain on the family's faces. I really hope when Judge Hippler sentences him, he excoriates him to the point where it shows on BK's eyebrowless stupid face, getting rid of his Duper's Delight smirk. I hope he tells him he's NOT the smartest person in the room, that he could've have a great career but his own stupidity and hubris, his untreated mental illness (psychopathy) prevented this.

His face when he's watching Bill Thompson speak tells me all I need to know about him.

His or AT's, and B) if his idea, what exactly was his reason for doing it cuz I don't think his plea deal was last minute IMO. Although it could have been decided after thinning and lightening his Brybrows.

I think his defense team will help prepare him for the day, or possibly two days, of victim impact statements, as well as the judge's sentencing remarks.

I found that interesting as well and look forward to hearing her insights about BK and her professional relationship with him as his advisor and professor. She hasn't been able to speak publicly up until now, so I suspect that she will be doing more interviews after the gag order is removed, and then there is the book she hopes to write. She also has apparently established a relationship with BK's family, having reached out to them at some point after the murders were committed.

The hearing that took place to nail down the plea was to have the defendant admit his guilt, not to provide answers to a public that wants more information about why the defendant committed this
Horrific crime. Of course there is closure in the sense this killer is going to be locked up for
Life and will leave prison in a pine box--that is justice. For the families the word closure has little meaning because their loved ones are gone forever...
