What a difference between his old Brybrows and his newly lightened and thinned Brybrows. You actually have to look hard to see if he even has them. I wonder A) whose idea that was. His or AT's, and B) if his idea, what exactly was his reason for doing it cuz I don't think his plea deal was last minute IMO. Although it could have been decided after thinning and lightening his Brybrows.

Note - I added a pic to your post so his Brybrows would be side-by-side for comparison. Link to my added pic source also added.

I don't quite understand how he got to dye his hair and eyebrows in JAIL.

I don't quite understand how he got to dye his hair and eyebrows in JAIL.

I honestly think some of this might be lighting. My own brown eyebrows almost disappear in certain conditions.

There was no pool camera to take close ups of Kohberger in the previous Hippler hearings, IIRC, so we have no way to compare his plea hearing photos to earlier ones in the same courtroom.

Obviously, BK had a new haircut, perhaps to prepare for a prison buzz cut? (Think of evil Alex Murdaugh, another man who IMO deserved to die for his heartless crimes.)

Now, BK’s new haircut does exaggerate his weight loss, and that beige on brown ensemble was hardly flattering to a man with his coloring. So I’m sure his fan club was terribly disappointed that he looked so wan and pitiful. But they’ll be positively apoplectic (hehe) when he returns to court in his bright orange jail jumpsuit in a little over two weeks time.

Anyway, rest assured that even if BK had waxed his eyebrows in preparation for the trial that never was, it wouldn’t have done any good. One look by that jury at his thumbs-up selfie, and the jig would be up.

Luckily, it’s all irrelevant now, because BK’s jig is up since he finally did the first decent thing in a very long time: confess to murdering Maddie, Kaylee, Xana and Ethan.

I think it’s the color of his hair & it being recently cut shorter than normal. I have similarly colored hair & it looks lighter when it’s cut short (especially with a trimmer & guard). Singular hairs may even look blonde (which was my hair color as a kid & has darkened over the years). Some hair products might make my hair look darker, as it will when longer or thicker (not thinned out). My brows aren’t bushy & I don’t have the Neanderthal ridge going on to make them as prominent as the Brybrows seem to be but he’s probably had a trimmer used there as well. I doubt his hair was colored in any way.

I suppose the idea was to convince the jury that the "bushy eyebrows" description eliminated BK as a suspect.
Right and I think the close cropped hair and brybrows (@Megnut) was done to intentionally give him a more youthful appearance.

BK looked older IMO in his nice business suits and head full of wavy hair.

Now he looks more like a college age kid verses a 30 yo man.

Any of you that are as old as dirt, like me, will probably remember this guy, Wooly Willy. BK's new courtroom pic looks like an evil Willy, before we use the pen to move all of the magnetic shavings up to give him the classic Brybrows.

Before my childhood time, but looks interesting. :)

Yes! I didn’t think of his hair looking lighter when it’s shorter. (I have the same color hair, but I’ve never had it that short!)

I’m sure you’ll be tickled to know, @INfisherman (if you don’t already) that BK, too, was once a “healthy blonde-haired boy with blue eyes,” so
I think you’re onto something.

(snipped by me)

(bolded by me)

According to the July 3, 2025 episode, Special: True Crime Legend Dr. Ann Burgess on Bryan Kohberger, of the Surviving the Survivor podcast:

(bolded by me)

So Katherine Ramsland won’t be able to clarify her definition of “self-reflection” at this time.

However, it might be helpful to explore a bit of context provided by a July 2 New York Post article that recaps Dr. Ramsland’s NewsNation interview:

(bolded by me)

Ramsland based her statement about Kohberger’s intellectual capacity on her experience as his professor and advisor at DeSales, starting in the fall of 2018 when he was an undergraduate.

She said the following about BK as a student:

I realize many here have no interest in understanding the forensic psychology of Bryan Kohberger, but that is literally Dr. Ramsland’s job.

She explains the usefulness of her research about serial killers such as BTK, as well as other serious offenders, in the A & E piece, Exploring the Mind of BTK: Dr. Katherine Ramsland on the Benefits of Getting to Know Dennis Rader:

(bolded my me)

Dr. Ramsland wants BK to be her research subject, not her bosom friend. She must approach him or any other research subject intellectually and dispassionately so that her own emotions are not manipulated by her subject. She had lots of practice doing this with Dennis Rader.

If BK agrees, Ramsland might better understand his “criminal type” so she can, as she told NewsNation, identify warning signs, developmental trajectories and other triggers.

To do this, she doesn’t need BK to be humble, courageous or empathetic. She only needs him to be intellectually self-aware. He demonstrated this self-awareness of his own mental state in his teenage Tapatalk posts, and he likely studied psychology and criminology so he could understand why he felt and thought the way he did.

With their shared vocabulary of forensic psychology, Ramsland may guide BK to recount his descent into madness and villainy.

Perhaps she’ll discover that he turned to the dark side when he started abusing heroin. As revealed in the July 3 New York Post article by Vicky Ward linked earlier in the thread, Kohberger started stealing and lying at this time to fund his heroin habit.

Ramsland may also discover that BK was radicalized soon after, at age 19, when Elliot Rodger became an incel phenom.

Tragically, BK may have been saved if he had been honest with his parents about his struggles instead of typing into the Tapatalk void, if he had deepened his ties with his childhood friends instead of pushing them away with drug use, or if he had met with his priest for moral guidance instead of studying the criminal mind.

But we need people like Katherine Ramsland to study the criminal mind, including the tainted mind of BK, to help us understand how to prevent another young man from following such a dangerous path.

Just me, but I'll just say I'm torn on Prof. Ramsland until more information is known.

I believe she may not be the best person to interview BK even though she has expressed great interest in doing so because of her personal connection. I honestly don't believe BK will ever be truthful in his admissions if he does make any. He obviously duped her during his time at DeSales.

BK is a game player, highly manipulative, and throw in a big fat liar on top of that. He will try and mansplain and blame something or someone else for his horrific actions.

I know Ramsland is well thought of by many, that she has devoted her life to this career, but I think she's dazzled by the potential of her own Ann Rule moment.

PunishThenForgive makes a good point about Ramsland meaning "intellectual self-reflection" because of the focus of her studies. However, this narrow notion, however useful to her and us his teenage writings about not being able to feel are, explains in part why she missed his criminality or at least his lack of ability to make social connections.

I once missed full-blown psychopathy in a student. When I talked to the head of our criminal justice program, a retired FBI SA, about my surprise at the crime this kid committed, he said, "Well, I knew he was a psychopath when I had him in class." If all you look at is academic performance and you're fooled by the social mask or not interested in it, you're going to miss major aspects of the personality.

The DDD could easily have been victim #1 given the timing. He would have to realize that she could ID the color of his car and wonder if she saw him get out in that all black outfit. There's no way, he wouldn't have killed her if he knew she was there and could have seen him.
I agree. Much like Steven Parent, who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and became the first victim when Charles Manson's followers killed Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, and others.

Whereas Rule, a former cop, sat beside Bundy at the suicide crisis line and was fooled by his mask. To the extent that she still had doubts of his guilt when she was corresponding with him in prison.

I think Ramsland wants to write the next The Stranger Beside Me. She's got to be nearing retirement; this is her only shot. She's going to take it.

OF course, SG feels railroaded. The judge was far more concerned with his office receiving phone calls than he was with four victims who were killed in their home. Imagine how the judge woud feel If his loved one was killed while she slept. The judge was rather irate over receiving phone calls, which are completely harmless. The whole process is a sham, and sadly, SG is recognizing this in realtime. Only criminals have rights. I am sorry for the loss of his daughter as well as the other three victims.
I respectfully disagree. The judges job is to make sure there are no thumbs on the scale of justice for either side. It was totally inappropriate for people to leave the judge messages urging him to put his thumb on the scale. I refuse to condemn SG for asking people to do it, because the man has been through hell, but I also don't at all blame the judge for getting it on the record that he was not influenced by any outside forces, nor was he going to be.

Agree, although I don't condemn SG for his suffering, I do think what he did regarding having his SM followers contacting Judge Hippler directly was uncalled for and reckless. What if some internet crank took it upon themselves to harm the Judge?

I know everyone grieves differently, but there are other parents/step parents here who also brutally lost a child. They have endured the same hardships for the sake of the case overall. Are they hurting, grieving or loved their child any less because they are not front and center in the media spotlight?

I wish SG and his family nothing but healing and peace if they can find it. I also hope they learn how to cope and get through this horrible tragedy day by day.

Luckily, all five sentences are consecutive. Given the nature of his crimes and the shortened life span of prisoners, I wager he’ll die in prison.

IMO
I think there is 100% chance that he'll die in prison. While some states consider "life" to be 20 years or so, in Idaho, life in prison is literally life in prison until you die. I approve.

I agree. Someone else said that his daughter would not want him to suffer this way and I'm sure that's true. I hope he can find some way to give himself some peace.

I remember Willy and even found these one year for my sons’ birthday party favors — but hate to think of myself as “old as dirt.” Speak for yourself. 🤨

[Going OT, but we need some levity in the gruesome case.]
I’m 86. Does that qualify as old as dirt? Ha

What would really help all of us is if we learned how to tell the mask from the hidden predator underneath. It's one thing to learn about the brain, the DNA and genetic aspects of brain difference, and the impact of childhood experience, but what makes this case fascinating is how many people realized BK was "off." He was an incel because women experienced his energy and affect negatively and on a visceral level. The professors at WSU saw right away that he couldn't have power over students. It's that extra thing that we don't predict well, the difference that allows them to commit mass or serial murder or that allows them to imagine that murdering a spouse is easier than divorce.

I'm still getting over the fact that SteveP is old enough to remember Wooly Willy. I've always pictured him as a handsome, brilliant fellow around 30.

It's a "fixed" sentence, which is life without parole. He has 4 of these and a 10 years for burglary on top of that. And of course, no appeals.

Aren't we all, on the internet?

My profile picture is over ten years old. I just like it. I knitted the hat.
