Same, but I also hurt for Bryan’s parents.

Of course we don’t know it from the inside, but from the outside looking in they seem to love and care for their son.

We’ve learned about how much they tried to help Bryan throughout his life. Even as an adult his father flew out to Washington to drive his son back to Pennsylvania.

He had an intact family, he has successful siblings, apparently there were money problems but Bryan still was able to go to college.

JMO, they are suffering too. Their son is alive but a monster and I imagine they feel shame. He was once their little boy, though. It’s heartbreaking.
I'm very much heartbroken for them too and they're his victims also. People often fail to see that the families of a violent offender are often in pain too, especially in cases like this where they did nothing but love their child and it still turned out to be a monster 😔

His selfish act has just left waves of destruction 😞

In line outside the courtroom waiting to go in.They have us up against the wall to make room for the victims families as they walk by to enter.Everyone is silent. I’m so sad for them.

I'm in the courtroom. Bryan Kohberger in here now. About to start.

Kohberger judge says people calling his office about this case has been "incredibly disruptive" for him and his staff.

Kohberger judge says he has not listened to any of the voicemails he has.
"It is not appropriate and not something I would take into account when deciding a case like this.”

Judge Hippler says he first heard of the Kohberger plea agreement Monday afternoon and "heard no inkling of it beforehand.”

Judge Hippler is going over the details of the Kohberger plea now.Life sentences to run consecutively. Waives right to appeal.

Bryan Kohberger is taking an oath now to tell the truth. judge about to ask him questions.

Kohberger says he understands the nature of the charges he is pleading guilty to. So far he is just giving yes and no answers.

"Are you pleading guilty because you are guilty?""Yes" Kohberger says.

Judge: You stabbed and murdered Madison Mogen. You deliberately killed and murdered Kaylee Goncalves a human being. You killed and murdered Xana Kernodle. You killed and murdered Ethan Chapin.Dou you understand you are admitting those things are true?Kohberger: Yes.

Judge: Did you enter the residence at 1122 King Road with the intent to commit murder?Kohberger: yes

Kohberger just admitted to killing the victims with premeditation.

Prosecutor says back in March of 2022 when Kohberger was living with his parents in Pennsylvania he purchased the knife. He says Kohberger in July of 2022 Kohberger's phone began connecting to a cell tower near the victims home.

State says early morning November 13, 2022 -- Kohberger's phone left his residence in Pullman and was then turned off during the time of the murders.Surveillance video shows Kohberger's car circling the 1122 King Road neighborhood starting around 3:30am.

4:05am -- Kohberger's car did a u turn and parked above and behind the 1122 King Road residence. Entered through kitchen sliding door.

Kohberger entered the residence. Went to third floor. Killed Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves. Left the sheath behind next to Madison's body.Xana was still awake at this time.

Kohberger encountered Xana and killed her with the knife. Ethan Chapin was asleep, and Kohberger then killed him with the knife. Each victim suffered multiple wounds. No evidence of a sexual assault on any victims.

Surviving roommate saw Kohberger leaving through the kitchen door. Defendants car is later seen on a neighbor's surveillance video leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Car almost loses control.

After murders, Kohberger drove on the back roads south of Moscow, Idaho. 4:48 -- Kohberger's phone comes back on.

5:26am -- surveillance cameras in Pullman, Washington show Kohberger entering the area and to his apartment. He arrived at his apartment at 5:30am.

Later that morning -- Kohberger went back to the murder house around 9am. Was there for ten minutes. And then returned back to his apartment in Pullman. Then he took the selfie of himself with the thumbs up in his bathroom.

Kohberger is sitting and listening intently as the prosecutor explains what he did.

Kohberger later tried to delete his transaction history on Amazon that shows he bought the knife. He also went to the DMV to change his car registration.

After the murders, Kohberger finished his studies at Washington State and then returned to Pennsylvania for the holidays.

Investigators took trash from Kohberger's parents house in Pennsylvania where he was staying. Lab then identified DNA on cue tip as the "father of the person whose DNA was found on the knife sheath.”

Knife has not been recovered, prosecutor says.

Prosecutor is getting emotional saying that Kohberger killed Kaylee, Ethan, Maddie, and Xana.He is choking up.

Judge: how do you plea Mr. Kohberger?
Kohberger: Guilty. They are going through each victims name.

Kohberger has zero expressions or emotion.

Kohberger sentencing is July 23 at 9am.That is when the victims will be able to make statements. Kohberger could also talk.

Kohberger hearing is over. He admitted it all.I'm sitting behind his parents.

Bryan Kohberger's parents are not crying, but look sad.Unlike their son who looks STONE COLD.

I believe the prosecutor stated M, K, then leaving of sheath next to M, then going downstairs, seeing X, killing her, then going into bedroom and killing Ethan.

Nothing about whether Ethan was sleeping or not.
Almost positive I heard it said in court today that Ethan was indeed asleep when he was murdered. Looking for a link. moo

I think we share the same DNA! LOL I had every Nancy Drew AND Hardy Boys book, worked part time odd jobs to pay for subscription to True Crime magazines.

I've been a member here for a long time as well and still find myself shocked at some of the things people will do to others. I've worked with LEO's and been to a lot of crime scenes.....and let me tell you, nothing prepares you for the reality of what a crime truly is.

Please don't beat me up over this, but I do tend to get a little frustrated when I hear others offer "mental health" as a reason for why people are so evil. I honestly believe that most killers do have some mental health issues, but I also believe most are just mean and evil.....no soul, no anything. I've seen my share of evil in people and they seemed to really enjoy it.

moo

I read the Hardy Boys mysteries, too! I love I found someone else who started out with those types of books ! lol !!

I’m kind of jealous you worked with law enforcement, and I always wanted to go to crime scenes , and gather evidence !! I understand it is way worse and far more horrific than I can imagine. And I should be glad I have not exposed my mind to such horror in real life .
Glad to see you are a long time Websleuth-er, too !!

Judge Hippler began today's change of plea hearing admonishing efforts by the Goncalves family to have people call and email the judge and encourage him to reject the plea deal. Said it was highly inappropriate and disruptive to the court.

Pool photo from the @AP of Bryan Kohberger at his change of plea hearing today. He's now 30 years old. It's been 962 days since prosecutors say he killed four University of Idaho students.

Kohberger: Yes.

Prosecutor Bill Thompson detailed the evidence it would have presented at trial. NO CONNECTION mentioned between Kohberger and the victims and no motive revealed.

That’s what I heard too.

It’s long been rumored Madison and Ethan were both sleeping/intoxicated to the point they did not fight back.

It was definitely stated in court that Ethan was asleep when he was killed 😞

At this point why would he not tell where the murder weapon is? I do wonder what he was doing from the time he ordered it until he used it in November...

  • #793
I shudder to think whether BK was practicing up for their murders by collecting weapons, getting physically fit and practicing weapon use, stalking women, hot prowling, etc. Or he has actually committed other crimes before leading up to their murders and just gotten away with it.

I wonder whether some info came up along these lines during the investigation and it was set aside because the focus was on their murders.

I wouldn't be surprised. He is capable of doing anything to anyone if he has it in mind.

MOO.

He won't tell because people want to know. He buzzes off power and will hold onto anything that gives him it.

He's textbook.

  • #796
I wouldn't expect a explanation or reason as to why he did it then as it was not part of the plea, i wonder why? I get its safer to just get the confession but i might think they would ask him to explain why as well. i thnk people are right and thats one bit he will die with as it is indeed a powerful piece of information and can be used as leverage.

good riddance.

for the families justice is done.

And "carved" his legs, according to the recent Dateline episode. Literally overkill.
I didn't know he carved in Ethan's legs!!! that is unbelievable and chilling

Unless they're guilty as sin and deserve it.

I know where you're coming from as sometimes the DP is used as a means to try get a defendant to plead out, seen more so in federal trials and I most certainly don't agree with that. That said, in the states that use the DP as punishment, there are factors which have to be met in order for the DP to be on the table. This case in particular is a prime example for a death penalty card to be plonked on the table imo.

He's as guilty as can be and he hasn't admitted his guilt falsely to avoid being executed, he's done so because he did in fact butcher those 4 people to bits, realised his defense had no more blags in their pockets, and wanted one last power play.

IMO
I don't suggest that DA Thompson used the DP as leverage or that BK was unfairly treated. Thompson and his team were ready to try the case and seek the DP. I think AT raised enough concern about BK's right to a fair trial being compromised by pretrial publicity, that Thompson simply believed this was a just outcome, the best he could achieve.

I was responding to a more general concern expressed by a previous poster that if the death penalty was not available as bargaining leverage, more guilty murderers would go free.

If it's any consolation to those who really wanted to see a DP sentence in this case, I think BK will have a huge bullseye on his back in prison.

Unless he's put in solitary 24-7, he'll be living in a state of constant fear.

The hunter is about to become the hunted. Hate to see it.
JMO.
They will have to put him in protective custody for this reason.

IMO
