'I want to stab and kill my brother, I even take an antipsychotic. If you need to give pity, then give it to the victims.'

Those are the shocking words scrawled in blue ink across a handmade cardboard sign a six-year-old girl was forced to stand holding for hours in the snow.

Her parents Cody Allen Scott, 33, and Kylie Jo Scott, 34, were arrested after horrified passersby in Logansport, Indiana, called 911 on January 19.

I hope both of them are jailed for a long time, and that the girl is now safe. I see that he also admits to beating her - it sounds like the 911 caller saved her. If she was put on medication of the type on the sign, then i hope the doctor that prescribed it gets looked into. Jmo, moo

The investigator also said there were indications the Scotts had prepared the girl for her interview at the child advocacy center by going over potential questions she might be asked and how she should respond.

The investigator didn’t believe the punishment fit the crime and asked the prosecutor’s office to review the case for possible charges.

“The affiant finds this form of discipline to be disproportionate to the offense and unnecessarily degrading,” the investigator wrote in the affidavit.

He said that aside from beating her, he couldn’t think of another effective punishment. It doesn’t sound like he is admitting that he beat her only that other punishments weren’t effective

Scott reportedly told the 911 caller that the girl had been taken to a hospital in Terre Haute twice, and that the girl had been "kicked out."
"I threatened to not pick her up," Scott is recorded telling the 911 caller. "They said they would call DCS on me for abandonment."

They should have left her at the hospital if they felt like they couldn’t keep her younger brother safe from her.

She's wearing freaking crocs. In the snow.

Sad all around. The parents must have been at the end of their rope. She was not physically endangered (kids play that long outside in that type of weather bundled up like that). Sounds like they tried hospitalization twice and she was discharged. I’m betting they knew it would get investigated- and were probably actually hoping an agency would get involved. Perhaps they feel she needs long term hospitalizations, no one believed them, and this was a cry for help with that. MOO

I reiterate - she's wearing freaking crocs in the snow.

i mean, help should be available when parents don’t know what to do with their child

but this is still child abuse :(

and why do they shame her for apparently needing medication? i doubt that taking antipsychotics is her own choice at 6 years old :(

Sometimes victim blaming by giving the suspect an explanation for their behaviour is because we can't fit such cruelty into our framework of human behaviour. But, even so, we have to be careful that we don't justify such cruelty just for that reason. The world is filled with evil adults who would endanger even their own children. They cannot be excused.

Antipsychotics being prescribed to a child that young is an incredibly controversial thing, too. The side effects can be extreme and long term effects on health and longevity range from worrying to unknown.

This is horrific. The parents need to be jailed, but this child also needs urgent help. A child taking anti psychotics is extremely rare, she must really be struggling. Hope she can get the help she needs
Struggling? Or medical abuse?

If she's on these meds purely on reported behaviour/symptoms coming from the parents, then I'd be questioning their appropriateness or necessity. They wouldn't be the first parents to drug their child as a form of punishment and control, and also to make their child not be believed if they report abuse.

DARVO.
