Rare jaguar roaming Arizona mountains

TUCSON, ARIZ. New photographs show that a rare male jaguar apparently has been roaming in Southern Arizona mountains for at least nine months, indicating the animals are occasionally moving into their historic range from northern Mexico and into the American Southwest.

I had no idea there were any jaguars in the US! Wish the story had more info cause there has to be at least 2 others roaming around.

Although their native terrain once extended as far north as the Grand Canyon, and they were seen in southern Texas as recently as the 1940s, by 1990 jaguars were believed to have been eliminated from the United States. “That changed in 1996 when two different male jaguars were photographed in southwestern New Mexico and Arizona,” according to the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

Thank you for posting this! I hope they get the protection they need and are able to thrive in their new territory. I feel kinda honored to have jaguars roaming in the US :rocker:
